McPeake sells out of Tigers completely

Recently appointed Melbourne Tigers CEO, Michael Slepoy, and cousin Larry Kestelman (fellow Dodo Director and recently appointed Melbourne Tigers Chairman), are now the majority owners of the Melbourne Tigers Basketball Club.

At a scheduled board meeting earlier today, Slepoy and Kestelman increased their ownership share of the club by purchasing former majority owners Seamus McPeake and Grant Stephenson's shares.

McPeake last week vacated his position as CEO and today, after selling his shares, ended his official role with the club resigning as a Director of the Board.

McPeake joined the Melbourne Tigers in the mid 90’s as a sponsor and stepped in to help save the club from severe financial debt in the early 2000’s, taking on the role of CEO and Director.

Despite recent controversies, McPeake departs the club with an immense level of respect and appreciation for his contribution to the Melbourne Tigers and basketball in Australia over the past decade.

Joining McPeake in resigning from the board is long serving and highly regarded contributor Grant Stephenson. Grant, along with his wife Terri, contributed countless hours and financial support to the club.

Together with McPeake, the Stephenson’s contributed greatly in some of the club’s great moments including the NBL Championships in 2005/06 and 2007/08.

Other changes ratified at the Tigers board meeting today include the resignations of Directors Cliff Gale and Gerry Masters, as well as the appointment of long-term Dodo in-house Legal Counsel Mr Ilya Fisher to the Board in order to assist during the transition period.

The entire club would like to extend its appreciation for all outgoing Directors for their dedication and services.

The change at the top signifies a new beginning for the Melbourne Tigers, with Kestelman and Slepoy devoted to developing the most professional basketball organisation, and continuing the great Tigers legacy of family values and success.

Family values, yeah nice.

BA would be so grateful to be rid of Seamus McPeake, he was a disgrace a bit like the NBL's version of Donald Sterling.

Something had to be done. Could see an exodus of players return to Melbourne who disliked mcpeakes style.

Great news for the tigers - not too concerned about Corletto not being there. He's played some great games for NZ but recently hasn't done a whole lot. He wouldnt' have had a big impact on the tigers Win-Loss record, while Mills did when he was here.

Corletto was a huge loss and the Tigers wouldnt be in the mess they are now if he was still around. Getting rid of him left them a player short for most of the season. The Tigers didnt make the most of Mills time either, they needed to be better than 6-3 with the draw they had.

Fresh start for the club is great, hopefully theyll do better with the new head honchos.

Corletto is a huge loss, just as Stephen Hoare was. You just don't let guys like that leave your club.

Agree with Vart. DC and Stephen did a lot more than you saw on the score-sheet - they were the glue that held the Tigers together while others took the limelight.

the guy has been in the league for 10 years, it's like having a member of the coaching staff on the floor especially if you have a couple of young guys getting minutes. He could make 1 of 5 for the rest of the season and I wouldn't care. He covered Brutons spot while he was out injured with great numbers and sure they have tapered off in the last couple of games but they were wins and the Breakers weren't relying on him to win it for them. Corletto's defense is sound and he doesn't need the ball in his hands to influence the game and he can bring the ball up allowing Bruton to play SG while Jackson is resting.
I'm hoping NZ can sign him for at least 2 more seasons but if another Melbourne franchise pops up it would be hard to compete with family.

Last I heard was that Tim Lang is still under the Tigers control. Training limited times with the Cobras. Tigers in the Finals?
