Batkovic wins WNBL POTW for Round 12
Suzy Batkovic of the Adelaide Lightning has been named WNBL Player of the Week for Round 12 of the 2011/12 WNBL season.
It is the third time Batkovic has been awarded Player of the Week this season, having previously taken out the honour in Round Six and Round Eight.
This week Batkovic narrowly edged out Renae Camino of the Logan Thunder for the award.
In the Lightning's 80-68 victory against the Townsville Fire on Saturday night, Batkovic proved to be a dominant force, helping the Adelaide side remain two games clear at the top of the WNBL ladder, with a record of 12-2.
It was a game that saw Batkovic record her tenth double-double of the season, with the Olympian pouring in 34 points and 11 rebounds, connecting on 15 of her 24 field goal attempts, at 63 per cent accuracy. She also contributed four assists, two steals and two blocks in the contest.
Batkovic, who was also named Joint-WNBL Player of the Month for November, currently leads the league in scoring, averaging 25.4 points per game, rebounds, averaging 10.9 per game, and steals, averaging 2.8 per game.
Logan’s Renae Camino led her side to a crucial victory at home on Saturday night against the Dandenong Rangers. Camino recorded her highest scoring output of the season with 28 points, connecting on ten of her 17 field goal attempts in the Thunder’s 76-71 victory.
Other Player of the Week contenders included Tess Madgen (Bendigo Spirit), Deanna Smith (Bendigo Spirit), Liz Cambage (Bulleen Boomers), Michelle Cosier (Canberra Capitals) and Abby Bishop (Adelaide Lightning).
