I am still shocked why in a game where the Sixers needed to win they would take Simpson off for the last 7 minutes in the the 4th quarter (he came back on with 8 seconds to go).
I am even more shocked why they would play Darren Ng for the last 7 minutes of the 4th quarter after he had only played 5 minutes for the game. He played all his minutes in the second and came off with about 2 minutes to go. So he had been off the court for about 28 minutes (2 minutes, 10 minutes half time, 10 minutes 3 quarter time, 3 minutes end of 3rd, 3 minutes start of 4th) before Clarke put him back on to play the most crucial part of the game.

Perhaps with Ballinger injured for most of the season, Clarke is wrapping Simpson in cotton wool because he can't afford to have him injured as well. What other reason could he possibly have for his system that stinks of poor judgement.

Aaron Bruce has reportedly attracted NBA attention (along with Kazzoo) & the 6ers didn't try to resign him? Something is not right with your decision makers over there! Clarke may have been a little unlucky tonight but he does seem to be sinking as opposed to swimming in the big mans shoes!

Years ago
Just me again. Wanted to be the 100th poster on this thread!!
Aaron Bruce has not attracted any team from the nba.
from an impartial observer at the game:
Ballinger was injured, shoe and sock off, hobbling in the tunnel on the phone, presumably to the doctor during the fourth qtr. It looks serious, a stress injury/overuse. might need to be in cotton wool for a while. If it's a manageable thing, don't expect him to be 10 and 15 each night.
Khazzouh is grossly over protected by the referees...with 2 seconds left in regulation a foul call on Johnson (his fifth and final) was rubbish.
Warren's three to give the 6ers back the lead w/ 2 seconds left was enormous.
Helliwell played extremely well - missed a gimme lay-up that would have probably won the game in regulation and given the 6ers a 3 point lead.
Both teams refuse to defend anyone.
Diamon Simpson - sat for too long in the fourth. Needs to be played like an import, not a kid being developed. Unsure as to why this is...
Crowd was down - probably 2,000-3,000 people. Thursday night here in Sydney - school is out for most high schools, but the Foo Fighters were in town which impacted.
Adelaide appear to be on the right track - chemistry is good, personnel OK, it's just 3 losses to the Kins and 1 to the Hawks kills you. Win 3 of those 4 and the season has a much different look.

Well I'm glad when working my finances to save money by not getting a 36ers season ticket. What a waste of time. A coach who has been there over 2 years and nothing, with his years of experience, he has given nothing, changed teams each year. When does one learn that keep a team together for more than a year and you have experience. Maybe the owners of the team do not understand winning form. I know we are down under but the top of the ladder is that way up.
Talking to friends today many are pulling to plug and leaving after this season. Even a new coach there will need to be a lot done to make people interested in the 36ers again.

My morale is low after this loss. It's inconsistent.
You win one game and lose the next. There is no momentum to win one and win the next to build a streak.
The coaching moves continue to baffle me. He shows no improvement. I want him gone. Sooner the better.
It's going to be a painful slow season this year as a season ticket member. I'll weigh up in the off season whether to renew or not.
I'll be there Sunday with a negative attitute. I'm expecting a silent crowd. I'm expecting we'll get thrashed by 20-30 points.
The Balls injury doesn't look good. I'm fearing this might be a final season.
Let's see what happens.

Disappointing to lose, but
All this talk of rotations get you nowhere guys. During the 7 minutes Simpson was on the bench we outscored the Kings and took what should have been an unbeateable lead in regulation. What more can you ask? Who cares who is on the bench, who is on the court if you put yourself in a winning position, and should have won? How is it Marty's fault that his coaching and rotations nearly won the game for the Sixers? They had a freaking two point lead with two seconds left on the clock. But don't let the facts get in the way of having yet another gripe session guys!
Fact is, we scored what should have been the match winning basket with two left on the clock. Save for a miracle shot, the Kings should not have been able to equalise under any circumstances. So either DJ had a brain fade to foul, or the umps found another ghost foul on Kaz (as the anon poster above suggested). Can't blame the coach for either.
In overtime it seems we were out of personnel and out of skill. Going to Wade for the save three times in overtime is not going to win you many games. But the Sixers were always going to lose that game once it went to OT on Sydney's court, with our front court decimated.
Why would anyone declare that Simpson WOULD have won us the game in regulation when he was on court for the whole of OT and we ended up NOT winning? Pfft, the quality of considered comment on this forum has definitely dropped in the last few years...
End rant.

"Why would anyone declare that Simpson WOULD have won us the game in regulation when he was on court for the whole of OT and we ended up NOT winning? Pfft, the quality of considered comment on this forum has definitely dropped in the last few years..."
You forgot to pencil in two key factors as to why OT was different then the 4th quarter
1. Prior to over time Simpson was on the bench for 7 minutes before that and then 3 minutes (or is it 2 minutes?) during the end of quarter break. So he was out for 10 minutes, do you expect him to be as effective then?
2. DJ was fouled out so that makes it a lot more difficult for Simpson to be effective without another quality big man out there.
So you think it was a smart move to bring in Ng who had barely played to play the last 7 minutes and take off Simpson and replace him with Helliwell for those 7 minutes even though Simpson was possibly playing the best for us up to that point. Would Sydney take Khazzouh off for the last 7 minutes and put on Martin Iti instead? of course they wouldn't! Clarke continues to make poor coaching decisions which is reflected by his career losing record and is why if the Sixers don't beat NZ this sunday that he should be replaced.

You guys can use Challenge Stadium next year when we move to the Perth Arena if you want?
Seem to play the best there!
As someone who was at the game the 5th foul on DJ was not rubbish. And as Clarke is an habitual whinger about referees he didnt even say boo to the call. As a matter of fact no one on the sixers registered a blip on the radar
Did he have to foul or was it another DJ brain fade defensively?
Kaz beat him baseline on a pull through and he had turned the corner getting to the rim. DJ slid underneath pushing Kaz to the baseline as he elevated. The off-balance shot nearly dropped as well.

Who cares if it was a draw at full time and they did well. THEY STILL LOST
What hope do they have with the coach?
What point is there getting a new coach?
Might as well let the coach play out his season. Yes i said play, he obviously isn't working hard at getting the team up to win, probably unfit team as well. Watching some of the game they were not up to what Sydney were doing. Watch carefully at the end and see how tired 36ers were to the kings.
They only won the game against Perth as the sub coach knew how they play. I will never post on this team again as me and my mates who paid big money to watch a losing team have decided not to renew the season tickets next year. Maybe in a couple years time. I think they are trying to out do St Kildas AFL drought, I know one thing they are doing at least a good job of that in comparison. Will not be watching them against the kiwis that will be about as interesting as watching grass grow at cricket.
Oh you cannot blame the players excepting the ones who stayed the last 2.5 years after all the COACH decided to change them for a winning combination.
Nathan your probably the only one left of 2 years ago who could still play good basketball. Maybe the yank should go home and the other guy return to piano lessons

KingJames,
1. Yes. He is a pro. But who cares, as I said, we won the period whilst he sat on the bench.
2. Your point being? You blame Clarke for the loss whilst elevating Simpson to demi-god status. See point 1.
Can you prove the Sixers would have won the period by a more comfortable margin if Simpson was on the court? Maybe it was Simpson's D in the third that had us giving up a comfortable half time lead? But you didn't see the game but can positively blame Clarke for the loss?
Do I think it was smart to bring on Ng for 7 minutes in the third? Didn't see the game, but Ng seemed to be pretty handy in those minutes. Four points, a couple of boards, a few threes didn't drop (but which I am happy for him to take). Why? Are you telling me that it was because Ng was on court that we lost the game?

This has been said a hundred times, but why not once more....We got rid of the last coach because a finals appearance one year, then losses the next with average players wasn't a good enough result. Fast forward to now and we have a quality junior coach with a much better list of players, but to date his record is worse than the previous coach and we're only half way through his second season!...How many times can this be overlooked?

"Can you prove the Sixers would have won the period by a more comfortable margin if Simpson was on the court?"
Sixers out scored Perth 22-12 in the 4th quarter last game with Simpson playing 8 minutes of it. Simpson also probably rates in the top 5 players in the league currently. So I would say it is a higher probability that they would have done better with him being on rather then Helliwell. Once again would Khazzouh be replaced by Martin Iti or would Worthington be replaced by Tom Garlepp for the remaining 7 minutes of the 4th, regardless of what they did in the 3rd quarter?
"Are you telling me that it was because Ng was on court that we lost the game?"
No I am saying it is a low percentage play to bring a hot and cold player whose defense most consider to be average off the bench after sitting on it for almost 30 minutes. If he was brought on in the last 2 minutes for free throw purposes then that is fine.
If Clarke continued to win games I would be fine with those decisions but since he continues to lose games I see a huge problem with his low percentage decisions.

Alternatively KingJames, you could congratulate Clarke for his master rotations in the 4th, which got us back into the game, and into the lead, and which had us in an apparently unloseable situation with two seconds to go.
I am ambivalent about Marty's future with the Sixers, but at least criticise him for something he has done wrong, rather than something he apparently did reasonably well. Your hindsight assessments, without even having watched the game, blaming Clarke for that loss is unreasonable.
Kobe24

XY you seem a bit blinded by the whole Clarke thing, not sure how you can defend anything he has done. He kept a very good player on the bench during a period of the game, that he had to be in for. Imports are your money men, play them during the money periods of play. The fact the game went to OT, just shows that Clarke doesnt see the big picture, a supreme coach will always see every outcome play out in his head before it occurs. Clarke didnt see the game going to OT and needing Simpson ready to go from the start of the 5th period.
I wont sit here and listen to anyone genuinley endorsing Clarke at this stage, he is a big reason the 36ers brand is not doing a good job in this state.

Isaac, I didn't mean wrap Simpson in cotton wool to save him for finals, I meant to save him for the rest of the season.
Everyone who is talking about not renewing their season tickets and following through on it is contributing to the death of the 36ers. Whilst Clarke is at the helm and doing a lousy job of it, it is very frustrating but whilst the team survives in South Australia, that can change for the future. If they shut up shop altogether because of lack of support, then there won't be an opportunity to see better times in the future. I want the 36ers to stick around but the coach to go. Fail to continue to support them, the 36ers will also go. So can I suggest to everyone to stick around and support the team to ensure their survival and future enjoyment of the sport in this state. Patience and perserverance is required and the rewards will come.
