G2: Sixers @ The Gong

With road wins the difference between a playoff and an early shower, getting early road wins are as crucial as dressing correctly for a job interview. The Sixers travel to Steelcity (Carbon Tax City) to take on Gordie's Hawks who have been tipped by the bookies to secure this one in the Sunday afternoon clash. The Sixers are looking to find their swagger away from the Adelaide Arena and are still without Balls but have the second import who needs to shine like a diamond not a zirconia.
The Hawks will be no pushovers, but if played properly in the matchups can be beaten at home. "loungesuit" Larry Davidson stroked 19 points in round 1, and against the more agile Johnson could be in for a rude shock if DJ is fed the ball well and stays aggressive around the key.
The dangerman for the Sixers and the one they need to control is the enigmatic Oscar Forman who has flourished under the tutoring of the rusty haired master coach. The last few times these teams have played he has matched up against Holmes and made him look ordinary (or more ordinary as some would say) "Diamond” Simpson is likely to be his matchup and needs to be aware of Foreman's tricks. (go to the videotape!)
Helliwell needs a breakout game and could be the wildcard in the Sixers pack. Used well, he could be the one to pester Davidson and Forman into submission.
Saville and Weigh are the next likely matchup and if Weigh has practiced his shooting this week, there’s no reason why this matchup shouldn’t swing the Sixers way. With Creek on Saville (26 years his senior), Creek's quick transition is his strength and should draw fouls easily as I suspect Saville’s fingers will transform into hooks as I reckon Creeky has about 5 yards on him over the court.
Mat Campbell is another dangerous player and with Crosswell likely to start on him this will get down to cunnings. The ninja has been relegated to the position of 3 point specialist and hopefully he can ice a dagger or four from beyond the arc.
Rhys Martin dished out 7 assists last round and needs a short leash, that being the Rabbit. This is another matchup the Sixers could win if they keep it simple and don’t overcomplicate things.
The man under pressure must be Marty Clarke. Principle criticisms revolve around his roster decisions and lack of time outs when the opposition get a run on. There's no refund on un-used timeouts. There are times when a cunning coach plays a player out of position to create an upset in the structure of the opposition. Refer Trent Ormond-Allen in ruck. But, in a game like this the most simple game plans work, otherwise it'll end up as scary as a Mumbai taxi ride.
It all gets down to D and with some performances thinner than the gruel in a Russian gulag, the Sixers need to bind together or else it'll be a slow drive up the escarpment back to Sin City.
Let's hope those Hawkies fans are on their bums after the first play (like round 1) !

I'm in Sydney airport and John Williamson is about to get on the same flight to LA - still wearing a 36ers top. What could've been!

Good luck to Diamon tonight.

What's Diamon doing tonight? Hopefully resting for Sundays game :)

Ignore my obvious bias in this post but the whole Sixers starting 5 is better then their direct opponent for the Hawks

Martin vs Warren = Warren
Campbell vs Herbert = Even that Herbert was horrible last week I would say he is better
Saville vs Weigh = Saville has the experience but Weigh has the fresh legs so I would say weigh
Forman vs Simpson = Similar builds but since Simpson is an import he should be better
Davidson vs Johnson = Davidson is much better fundamentally however Johnson scored 37 last time they both matched up.

Unfortunately the difference here is that the hawks have a better coach that gets the best from his team. Also since it is Campbell's 500th game the Hawks will be pumped and will take the win as a result. Sixers will compete for 3 quarters before losing by about 14

Saville is well ahead of Weigh and Id take Davidson over Johnson as an all-court player. Campbell and Herbert are pretty similar. Simpson might be good but if Forman is shooting well I would say he will be a better player on Sunday while Simpson gets his legs.

So I'd have point guard as the one area of advantage for the Sixers!

Think Adelaide should go sith a small line up of
Croswell
Warren
Herbert
Weigh
Johnson

Bringing Simpson of the bench would help him flow into the action, don't think he would start when Ballinger gets back and this lineup gives the Hawks match up problems!

Crosswell is unlikely for this match from what I have heard.

With Simpson in the team now, I see no reason to start small.
The same starting 5 should be used.
Play Johnson for 35 minutes, 25 and 20 for Simpson and Helliwell.
If Simpson is struggling, throw Weigh in there for a bit.

Hopefully Ng is over whatever was wrong with him and plays more minutes.
Backup Point Guard is going to be interesting if Crosswell is out. Wouldn't really trust Herbert or Ng with bringing the ball up. Maybe Weigh can fill this role too?

6 steals for Jackson last week. Hopefully we put Herbert on their point guard and put strong pressure on them again.

Should put in a much better showing this week. Warren will be under considerably less pressure, so should be able to create more. Having a fit Ng to get some shots up will be handy too.

Looking for another strong showing from Johnson. Somewhere in the area of 16 and 8 would be what is expect.

Weigh to keep doing the little things. Hopefully he brings his shot this week.

Looking for a much better showing by Creek too.

Gong by a heap! Emotion alone will get them the win. Adelaide havent proven to be coached well under Clarke, period. And they didnt prove to have anything that reprsents a backbone last week. No Crosswell, should mean Warren who showed a bit lastweek, will play more, but Clarke will screw the supporters and the team just that bit more i suspect, and play others to fill Crossy's minutes, forgetting that its a 40minute game and most franchise/stars are more than capable of playing 35+. Gong by 15+.

Oops, thought Hawks-36ers was Friday night. Also think John might've been getting the flight to Dallas/FW.

Wollongong is one team you can play bigger minutes against because they play half court ball. Against Perth you are asking for trouble playing people more than 30.

Quizzically Ballinger topscored here on Thursday
but doesn't sound like he's travelled with the team.
Be very handy if he has.
