- Montepaschi Siena (Andersen)
- Unics Kazan (Jawai)

They could possibly be joined by Daniel Kickert's PGE Turow if they're able to win their qualifying round.

The only other Aussie confirmed for Euroleague play at this stage is Aleks Maric with Panathinaikos who are in Group B, while Brad Newley's Lietuvos Rytas have a chance to qualify for Group C.

Earning wise there is massive differentials between clubs and leagues in Europe. But the guys playing at the big clubs will be earning plenty, mostly several hundred thousand Euro if their contracts are comparable to similar players.

One example would be Daniel Kickert, coming off a good year in Italy and Eurocup about three seasons ago he reportedly signed a deal with Gran Canaria in Spain worth around half a million Euro.

In Poland now though, he wouldnt be on anywhere near that money I suspect.

LC, I saw in the Box scores for yesterday's NBA Pre season games Andersen suited up (and played) for the Hornets, I didn't think he was going back, do you know anything about this?

As for Andersen - wow...I looked at the ESPN box score and he was not listed as playing for the Hornets, but he is on NBA.com though - who are we to believe? Also, could not locate anything on the Montepaschi Siena webite...strange!

LC, you think we should be concerned about Newley's poor form of late? Not a good time to have a slump only a few months about from an Olympic campaign.

Also LC, scrolling through the various posts, it would appear that Maric has made an error in going to Panathinaikos. I know he was injured a lot last season, but he's just not getting any playing time at all. Not even in the Greek League! Back to Partizan next season perhaps?

Newley has struggled for any decent minutes since returning a few weeks ago from appendicitis. Can't crack the rotation it seems.

After a few years in lithuania it could be time for him to look for greener pastures as with Maric.

No better place than the olympics to get back on people's radars....

Totally agree Avv on the Olympics being a great platform from which to launch, or in the case of Maric and Newley, re-launch their careers. If Bogut plays, Maric may not get the opportunity of decent minutes to show much though...

Newley struggled for consistent minutes prior to appendicitis, and since returning he has struggled even more for minutes. Definitely a concern, along with Maric, but also Ingles at Barcelona as well.

Brad Newley is moving to Spain after agreeing to terms on a contract with Valenci until the end of this current season.

Brad Newley started the season with Lietuvos Rytas. He tallied 3.3 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.0 steal per game in Euroleague Qualifying Round. In VTB League Brad Newley posted 2.4 points and 3.2 rebounds. The Aussie also notched 4.5 points and 3.4 boards per game in LKL.

Newley joins fellow Aussie AJ Ogilvy on Valencia's roster. Let's hope a new team can allow him to rediscover his form...

Have you seen many of his games LC? I was just wondering if he's playing in the pivot, or holding down the four spot?

The way he's shooting the ball at the moment, I'd love to see him start at the four spot next to Bogut in London, with Nielsen backing him up and bringing energy and hustle off the bench.

Andersen's a bit of a matador on the defensive end. With Bogut backing him up, it could work for stretches with the right matchups, but I think Nielsen will retain his starting role.

LC - just wanted to add in my compliments on this and the College Thread. I read them every chance I get, it's a pity that they can't be 'stickied' so they constantly appear at the top of all threads.

Agree with your point AB4E, but I reckon there is merit in having national team players try to play as close a role for the Boomers as they do for there own club.

I think things can go pair shaped when you ask a guy whos been playing 8-10 minutes as a back up all year to suddenly start and play 30+.

So my thinking is that certainly offensively Andersen compliments Bogut, much more so than Nielsen, and defensively Bogut should be able to cover Andersen for the most part.

And as I mentioned above, Andersen has started and been a focus on offence all year, while Nielsen has only played very sparingly off the bench.

You present an excellent argument, Vart. Both are clearly good players who bring different strengths to the Boomers. Some of the reasons I feel Nielsen will be the starter include:

Brett Brown has brought a defensive mindset to the Boomers

Nielsen will get you more rebounds per minute than Andersen

Nielsen has a PG's ability to read the play and will often bag three or four dimes

Nielsen brings invaluable leadership intangibles

Nielsen with still bring you about nine points per game.

Regardless, both players I'm guessing will play 20-25 mins, so it's probably largely irrelevant who starts, their performances will both be critical to the Boomers chances.

Well said, and as you've correctly pointed out, both Nielsen and Andersen will be critical to the Boomers chances in London. They both need to bring their 'A' games if we are to challenge for a spot in the medal round.

Andersen's numbers vs Nielsen's can not be ignored. He should start over Nielsen, however like AB4E said, it is irrelevant as both will play plenty of minutes in a rotation with Bogut and Maric/Jawai.

BTW, what's up with Maric getting junk minutes, then starting the next game, then back to junk minutes again??? It's baffling when coaches make those kind of decisions. Not to mention detrimental to the confidence level of Maric..

On current form alone, can Brett Brown go with Maric over Jawai?

Training camp will be interested that's for sure, especially for the backup C and PG positions...it's hard to ignore Bayne's form though.

Panathinaikos will now take on Barcelona for 3rd place whilst CSKA Moscow will challenge Olympiakos for the title.

Wonder how Rob Rose will veiw the low scores. By his reasoning there must be no one worth paying to watch in Euroleague either. But hell, if there was more money in the league it would all be fixed.....Oh wait
