ABL Finals Week 3

Women:
West-Eagles @ Port Adelaide @ 6:15
A double OT game last week and what a game for West who were unlucky to miss out. All credit to Norwood who have proven to be the best team all season and worthy of their GF spot. The Eagles cruised in their game against Sturt and there's probably not too many teams that say they didn’t get out of second gear against Sturt. In Week 1, the Lions tossed the game away in the final quarter and in Week 2, Eagles were lucky to face an under strength Sturt. What series of unfortunate events will transpire to help Eagles this week? Will the Westies girls get a dodgy curry? Will some random break into their training and strap fake bombs to them? Have Forestville got Professor Quirrell hexing the opposition? Do Forestville have three witches making something in a cauldron?

At the moment Forestville could drive into a carpark with no empty spaces and then some car just pulls out in front of them!

West should be warned that "something lucky this way comes"

Their run of luck could run out this week. While I expect West should win, don’t be surprised if the Eagles wing it again.

Men:
Eagles-West @ Pasadena 8:15
Wayville has gone to the dogs this week (literally) and there’s a lot of talk about why you wouldn’t just do this at a neutral venue with a double header. Once again, Pasadena has proved a reliable number two. I think West like Pasadena after last week. Were Sturt even trying, or did the message go out they have run out of room for silverware and are waiting for new display cabinets to be built?
The Eagles are an unstoppable force and they met an unmovable object in the Flames last week. The Flames spread their minutes well last week and shot an amazing 61% from the floor. Cooper in sensational form with 14 boards, 19 points and 5 assists. He’s got another 5 seasons left in him, hasn’t he Brad!
The Eagles have knocked West off this season at home, but that was a West without Dowdell. Can we confirm his is playing? Do we need to meet him at the airport wearing a stylish burgundy jumper? While he had a lazy 10 points against Sturt, his 14 boards would have proved much more valuable. The Eagles have the Rash and three point specialist Sullivan, but West have their “unholy trinity” of Dowdell, Nurse and Truslove and when they are firing, they seem to combine for an extra player on court. That will be the difference tonight.
Let's not forget the Eagles have already won once this season at Pasadena, so there’s a reason why they have asked the game to be there. Whoever wins this game will be looking for early nights to bed this week, 'cos Brad’s bunch are waiting and they have had a week off to screen print t-shirts.

In the men's for me:

Truslove v Tucker: I wouldnt think Truslove would guard Tucker, but Tucker might have to bang with Truslove on the other end. Truslove has been playing well, but Rashards quickness and agility will win him the matchup here.
Haydon v Rankin or ?: Both role players, but can hit the open shots effectively, if one of these guys scores 10 points or so could swing the game.
Fildes v Evans: Fildes a lot younger and athletic with a decent shot, but Evans has the experience, rebounding and toughness. Think the experienced head would win here.
Sullivan v Nurse: Both excellent shooters that have been hot lately for each team. The only thing is both don't play too much defence. Whoever wins this matchup probably will seal the deal. Thinking that Sully has done this many times before and will be able to be slighlty more effcetive then Nurse.
Doyle v Pearce: Doyle is super quick & a good distributor, but Pearce can be an excellent defender when needed (see last wks game) Think his physicality and pressure may give him the edge in a final over Doyle.
Bench: Eagles have Blair and Deng who have been contributing well, while West have Braithwaite and Spud doing most of the damage for West. I think its a toss up between Blair & Braithwaite to see which one will have an impact on the game, both streaky who can shoot you in or out of games. Too close to call for me.

My tip: will be a ridiculously close and physical game. Without Dowdell, West may struggle defensively too keep the Eagles run and gun game down. Eagles by 4.

David Nurse got a good example of Aussie rules /Basketball last night, maybe even Rugby tackling.Truly what the hell do you have to do to get a foul out of these refs?Forrestville played well but the refs did way to much for them.

Nurse created nearly all of the contact. He was tying up and holding the defenders arm as he was leading to the ball. Maybe if he stopped looking for and trying to get the foul and actually led to the ball correctly he would have had better production.

Wow...west lose again and there are people complaining about refs and calls/no calls.

Maybe they can have a team name change down that way next year and be called the West Adelaide Whiners!

west never lose a game especially in ABA it is always the referees fault never that their opponents played well nor that they were short one of their star players, maybe some of their players didn't play well on the night, it simply has to be the umpires fault.

Maybe when we have somebody in Basketball SA presidency we might start not getting screwed over.Still if the Forestville no 6 was marked better it could have made a big difference in the game, the guy was on fire shooting and we never had a player within a 2 meters of him fkn stupid zone defense!

Anyone but the most biased Bearcats fan who was at the men's game would agree that Forestville were all over their opponents from the tip off. If Trent Fildes had his eye in early the game would have been over by half time. In the end the scoreboard flattered West who never looked like winning.

so you agree then that playing zone defence caused your teams problem and led to your downfall?

ah so now it is not only the refs that screwed you over but BSA as well?

How about the superior team on the night won, you lost.

Was the BSA President playing in the game? Or were they reffing? Was the whole BSA management playing or reffing? If not, how the hell did they "screw you over".....

Seriously. Looks like the gene pool down west needs some re-chlorination.

That is like saying is president Obama running around Afghanistan ,no he is not but he is the commander of the army and what he says goes!As far as Mr Nabisco is concerned the smug look at the end of the game towards the refs tells the story-don't act stupid of course he favors his club.Next time we have to play at least 20% better to eliminate the crap refs.Last week against Sturt some weird-arse reffing was going on also-first half sturt were copping it ,the second half it was West something has to be done about the standard this is not good enough. But as Beyonce sings;your hurt/your sad boo-hoo did you expect me to care.

Were you at the game Anon 322? If so you would have seen the 6 deliberate fouls committed by West in the last 3 minutes of the game to stop the clock.

No complaints from the West players so why the heck are you whinging?

A friendly tip. Get some knowledge of the game, harden up and get a grip before you go to another game.

Otherwise you'll spend a fortune on Kleenex. (I'm talking tears here btw)

You won an Olympic gold medal in 1980? I believe Yogoslavia won gold in the men's, and the Soviet Union the women's. Which one did you play for? And what are you doing watching ABA in Adelaide?

I am far lesser popular than my friend Kico, but i won 2 Olympic medals and one European title. My surname does end with ic and my club won 2 now called euro league titles in the eighties.Yes my old country had the name above, now my homeland is the same of the late Drazen Petrovic with who i play before .I am visiting friends in your beautiful country and am impressed with talent here very much.Tomorrow i travel to Brisbane then back to Europe. My friends son took me to the game Saturday it was technically good with average shooting but very unusual arbitrary work.Keep up producing young talent and get some more players to try euroleauge as to NBA.I believe young ozis would fit in good there and make some cash.
