Brook Rusoce is a 6"2 combo guard from NZL. Played for Auckland in the NZNBL alongside Luke Martin.
Very good scorer, but slightly undersized.
Avg 16 ppg at 2009 FIBA World Championships.
Averaged just 4.6ppg in 10mpg this season in the NBL.

Alot of potential! But serious questions about his size (not a PG, and short for a SG--Very much like a Greenwood type).

Guess that means Holmes is definitely gone then.

At one point , Sam Harris and the Peros were coming
Change of plans , by the look of it.
One of the guards must look a bit like Mills
I wouldn't recognise most of the others.

Marty is keeping his powder dry, but I would have thought a couple of other young guns in the league would be on his radar.

Whether Clarke's Boomers duties made/makes any difference to what is happening , not sure?

I don't mind handing you a brick , or a tile
if you're building something.
But what are you building? A wall? A house?
I cain't just throw bricks into the air and hope that someone will catch them and build something with them.
I want to know where the bricks go.

McMillan is a big and could be worth a DP spot.
tiri is a gun!! Bout time he got a chance he'll eat qaafow alive!
McCullum I undersized for NBL centre bu Laing is an interesting choice h is very solid!!

Ou of those listed I'd chase McMillan or Masuda.

Why are we trailing more PG? Doesn't male sense IMO

Reply #325248 | Report this post

Masunda is worth looking at - but do the 36ers need more guards ?

Tim Lange is a big body with potential - but why not look at Chris Cameron instead he is a smart mobile big man with a stand out season in SEABL .

Yes Hooley is going to America (In the next few weeks i believe)

Also, why are the trying PG's? I would prefer Daly to remain in the squad as Development player, he showed a lot of potential and also commitment to the sixers instead of running off to college. They should reward his loyalty to the team and state, and the fact that he deserves to be in the squad.

what about Daniel Carlin?

I don't think Clarke is interested in getting another guard at all at the trials but rather it was just a chance for more guys to come out and have ago.

Usef Qaafow should never be allowed in the NBL again. He has no game.

Carlin is going to College otherwise I reckon they would definitely get him.

Lang was average playing for the Tigers (if I remember correctly) but played last season in Germany so might be better now.

I am surprised Greg Vanderjagt isn't there giving it ago.

Tim Lange was good at Melbs - from memory only stopped playing when Anstey returned from injury. By looking at these players, they are looking at a budget spot - would be a good pickup for cheap.

Former 36er centre Neil Mottram also trained for part of the session and Clarke said he also had been in contact with other roster "possibles" such as Pero Vasiljevic, Sam Harris and Greg Vanderjagt.

FWIW, Boti went by the release's spelling and used Tim Lange throughout his article.

Thanks for that Isaac.

Great to see all those assist by Crosswell's name!

Vanderjagt shoots fg at 49% which is good enough but his free throw shooting is horrid at 57%. His 3's is not really a concern as we don't really want him shooting that many if he was to play with us.

McFarlin looks to be a beast on the boards but perhaps undersized for the NBL as someone mentioned he is only about 6'6.

Aryn McMillan - Forward - Kilsyth is horrible! I'm sick of these Kilsyth people like Rod Popp talking this kid up! Got no game and is a bad team guy! Always has and will be all about himself!

Daly seemed pretty right as the DP Guard , last season
One game , in particular , very, very good.
Still, - Tiri Masunda will be worth looking at , then.
Sam Harris's performances at training were absorbing,
last season.
Adrien Sturt would rock the place silly.

21 players - Mark Radford would be busy.
Might be two (2) assistant coaches helping.

KJ, I think 49% for a centre at that level might be about 5% low.

You're a tough man Isaac! None of those forwards/Centers in that list (besides Sam Harris 52%) shoot at over 50% from the field. DJ is about 49% and Jacob at 40%.

I reckon if you want a centre to shoot 49% in the NBL, then he needs to shoot at least %54 in the SEABL.

If Ivan McFarlin made the NBA Philly 76ers roster on his post up game and rebounding, then 6'6 is tall enough for the NBL 36ers I reckon.

Clarke has been quoted as saying the import needs to be a Mark Davis type, so Ivan McFarlin and Lester Stong fit the description. Strength more than size, good rebounders with post up and mid post game.

But that back up Ausi centre will need to have size. I think that's the plan anyways.

True - I suspect that NBL players push their game a bit more at ABL level and might see their FG% suffer as a result. A guy like Vanderjagt might be 4th or 5th defensive priority at any given time on court at NBL level, but 1st or 2nd in an ABL game. Should've allowed for that.

A low FG% is not unusual for Holmes or anyone relying on repeated inside attempts.

I don't think we need to get too caught up on the height - someone like Rosell Ellis is not that much taller than me but played a serviceable import role for one of the top teams last season. They just need to get it done.

As a complete guess, Lang and an import sounds OK to me. If an import was solid, then that final spot could go to a younger project but with DJ already filling that sort of role, I don't think Marty could survive another year of blooding players through a spoonish season. He has the three year deal, but there'd be performance requirements in the contract and the natives are restless.

As for Chris Cameron (if that's who people are referencing), Lang is a late '85 and Cameron went through AIS with Oscar who's an early '82 - might give Lang the advantage there if all things are otherwise equal.

Cameron has been playing great ball, I'd be looking at him as a back up. He might be older than this others mentioned but he us still a better pick up as Marty doesn't have time for "Another" one to develop!
