Sturt Internal/External Trials?? Combined?

Do Sturt have Internal trials as well and are they separate to External Trials? Or is everything combined?

Sturt have a coaches meeting to evaluate current players.

Players are placed in a squad for the coming season and team for the first week are decided, with players who are likely to rotate determined.

Over the first few weeks of trainings and games, players are moved according to their prorgess at said trainings and games.

The principle is that with 60 plus players on court at one time, trails are really not useful in determining team selection as a good player could perform badly in a one off situation and a worse play could do better than expected. And that trainings over summer are a better indication of where a player should be placed.

Thankyou, does it mean that an external trialler may not have the best chances of making a squad if they are not exceptional? How does one break into the club if so, and want to access good quality coaching that is offered at Sturt?

Sturt provide their members with 'Intent to Play' forms and have squads selected before external trials.

External trialers have the opportunity of making the first squad if good enough.

Sturt tries to run all their teams from 1 group, ie U16 boys, at the same time on Sundays. With the Div 1 coach organising and demonstrating the drills for the session.

As such this promotes coaches being able to suggest players who are showing the need to be promoted up teams, and gives higher division coaches a look at players from lower division teams at trainings.

why trial players that the club / coaches already know about ?

their skill capacity and attitude would be known to the squad selectors.

To me external trials are more relevant than internal ones.

Thre would not be too many clubs who still have internal trials, would there? That kind of went out in the dark ages.

To be quite honest, teams are worked out well before "trials".

I think it would be fairer to suggest that 'squads' are generally worked out before trials. A club would have to be shortsighted not to give new players or improved players a chance to perform.
