Women's Final 5
It's another tight end to the season and the teams guaranteed of finals action so far are.
Norwood (Top, 13-0) Simon says you’re playing finals.
Sturt (2nd, 14-2) With 3 remaining matches against South, @West, and Southern, they should comfortably finish 2nd.
West (3rd, 10-4) Remaining games are @South, Southern, Sturt and @Norwood. Have done enough for finals, but could be under threat of losing 3rd if they don’t win 2.
Eagles (4th, 8-6) Remaining games are Flames, @Mavs, Lions, @North. They should get 2 or 3 and firm up the 4th spot.
Teams having early showers.
Mavs (10th, 0-14) Could snare an away win against Woodies, but likely to finish 0-18 and chalk this season up to experience.
Woodville (9th, 1-13) Season over, but their last 3 games are @Flames, Mavs and @Lions. Regardless of what happens, like to finish 9th and have an early mad Monday.
The hunt for 5th spot: 10 wins will definitely secure it, 9 + splits is possible. % to come into play in the last chance. 8 wins is unlikely to get 5th.
North (7th 6-8) Need to play Mavs, @Lions, @Tigers, and Eagles. Might just end up 9-9 if things go their way, 7-11 if not.
Lions (6th 6-7) Have a game in hand, but play 3/5 away. @Tigers, North, @Eagles, @Flames, and Woodies. Need 3 of those games to qualify, but likely end up 8-10 or worst case 7-11. 9-9 best case scenario. Split with North crucial.
Tigers (5th 7-7) Remaining games are Lions, @West, North, and @Sturt. No easy games for the Tigeresses who need 2 of those to qualify. Likely to end up 8-10, 7-11 worst case. Lions might bump them on the split
South (8th 6-8) West, @Sturt, Flames, and @ Mavs. Everything hinges on the West game. Mavs is the only definite W, Sturt and Flames with be tough, but they could finish 7-11. 10-8 unlikley, but 8-10 best case. Have had a good run home, but too much damage in the first half of the season.
I think the crucial must win games for those teams that will decide 5th spot are:
South v West @ Marion. A win to South means they are still in the hunt, a loss means they are out of contention. 4 teams vying for 5th drop to 3.
Tigers v Lions @ The Vale: Lions by 15 at home, so Tigers need +16 for the split. Lions have dropped a bit in the return rounds so this will be a tight one, but have they dropped by 31?
Tigers v North @ The Vale. Tigers by 7 last time, but they enjoy their home court so with North fighting hard, this is another one to go to the wire.
Lions v North @ Starplex: Lions beat North @ Hillcrest by 13. Both teams can play when they want to. This should be the game to watch and the refs better be first class as one mistake will cost the match. IMO, this is the #1 battle that decides 5th spot. North need to win by 14 to get the split.
Lions v Woodville @ Starplex. (R18) Should be a last round W to the Lions, but will it be a win that secures 5th, or be too late?
North v Eagles @ Hillcrest. (R18) North by 7 last time against a very different Eagles outfit. Could the Rockettes catch the Eagles napping?
Tighter than one way street in Rome.
