never going to be a great player??? The guy was the best big man in the league at his peak. this is terrible news for basketball.

IMnoballer - bad call that one, anyone who watched Yao in his peak years saw how dominant he was.

Too bad his peak was so short and injury riddled. Did well to get so much out of that huge frame of his really. A body like that isn't built for 82+ games a year.

"One demensional"?? Are you serious? He had a great post game, could face up and had a nice mid range jump shot. It's a massive loss for the Rockets and the NBA!

Calling Yao one dimensional is just silly, he was easily multi-dimensional given his size, his shooting ability, his sweet post touch and sound post game, look at his free throw shooting as well, 80+ percent for someone his size is unheard of. I honestly think that if the Rockets had a healthy T-Mac and Yao they would've won a ring.

It sucks more so he was always stuck with players who didn't want to pass. If only he was able to go injury free he could have been a hall of famer. Seemed to have a genuine passion for the game also like some of the players of the past
