As others have pointed out, Newley had 16, 10 and 5, plus 8 turnovers.
The three big statlines were:
Todd Gower: 20 points, 18 rebounds, 5 assists, 6 steals -- about 63 HSA by my calculation, and the top statline of the season.
Oscar Forman: 37 points, 16 rebounds, 3 assists -- about 60 HSA.
Jason Dix: 26 points, 13 rebounds for around 40-something HSA.
Newley had some flashes of brilliance, but otherwise was not his best. Both teams got reasonable support from their other players, and only Darren Ng (3 of 17 for 11 points) really underperformed. He only had 1 turnover in 36+ minutes, so it was just his shooting that stunk, and he was pressured most of the game.
Fantastic crowd and decent atmosphere for the game -- full credit to Forestville for having the balls to bring in the extra stand and get people along to the game. It wasn't packed, but it was comfortable and well worth being there.
A great spectacle of a game, IMO. Forestville blew the lead out to 16 points at three quarter time before Sturt, largely on the back of Oscar who hit two threes and a foot-on-the-three-point-line two, brought it back within two -- huge showing from Oscar who hit tough shots against quality opposition all night. His career-high in points and probably (besides the slow start) the best game I've seen him play. The best signs, I thought, were that most of the points didn't come off catch-and-shoot but showed good ball control as he created his own shots. Dix and Farman are no slouches on defense either.
Dix looked tired at times, but came alive as the game drew on. Farman was the early instigator.
Sturt just had no real support outside of Gower and Forman, though players like Bauer, Hakendorf and Finkemeyer all did well, just needed to step up two points more!
Vaughan was good out there (2 assists in 5 minutes) in his minimal time, but playing behind Ng, Bauer, Shepherd and James-Martin is rough.
Likewise for Forestville, everyone played well even though there was only Dix as the impressive statline. Good spread of scorers for a total of 96 given that only one person was over 20 points. 16, 10 and 5 would be a good line for anyone, but the simple truth of the matter is that people are expecting more from Newley and the 8 turnovers continue a troubling tradition for him over his three games to date.
37 of 108 FG lost the game for Sturt even though they forced more Eagle turnovers (21 to 9), and 14 of 24 FT isn't fancy. Still, for a game in which one team shot 34%, I thought it was a very entertaining match.
Update: Forman had 21 after three quarters and had 16 in the final quarter, almost outscoring the entire Forestville team (they had 18).
