2011 NBA Draft - Predictions, Selections &Comments

The NBA Draft for 2011 is just hours away...who will go #1? Will it be our 'own' Kyrie Irving?

Two Aussies who are available for selection include:

- Anatoly Bose (Nicholls State / Sydney Kings)
- Ater Majok (UConn / FMV Isikspor Istanbul / Perth / Gold Coast)

Funnily enough, these two guys were born in other countries but learnt to play their basketball in Australia, whilst Irving was born in Australia but learnt to play in the US!

NBA.com Draft Board

ESPN Draft Board

DraftExpress HQ 2011

I predict that Bose and Majok will miss out on selection. Irving will be picked up at #1.

Make your predictions, share the selections and post your comments on this year's draft in this thread.

Milwaukee have been reportedly been active in trading in a three-way deal involving Sacramento and Charlotte.

- Milwaukee gets Stephen Jackson, Shaun Livingston, Beno Udrih & the 19th pick from the Bobcats in today's draft.
- Charlotte gets Sacramento's 7th pick in today's draft & Corey Maggette.
- Sacramento gets the 10th pick in today's draft & John Salmons.

ESPN: Sources: Stephen Jackson to Bucks

Seem like a good trade for the Bucks get rid of two terrible contracts and get 2 good players back.

I also think Cavs might take Williams hoping Kahn (Wolves GM) takes Kanter as they don't need another pg, meaning utah have to take Irving and Cavs get the second best PG Knight at 4 (consider third best player in the draft.

Iving, Williams and Kanter as top 3 in that order. I wonder if Kemba Walker will slide as much as predicted, ridiculous that he could fall so low when he is one of the top prospects. Also excited to see where Jimmer lands!

"Maduabum, listed at 6 feet 9, is from Nigeria and played three games last season with Bakersfield of the Development League, averaging 0.7 points and 0.3 rebounds.

Majok, listed at 6 feet 10, is from Sudan and abruptly left the University of Connecticut last September. He averaged 2.3 points and three rebounds in 26 games with the Huskies before leaving after one season to play professionally in Turkey and Australia."

Based on the Lakers' final two picks, they're not overly fussed about scoring. Luckily they have Metta World Peace on the roster to introduce these guys to the NBA, should they make it.

Ladies and gents, your 2011/12 Lakers.

what do people think of stephen jackson for john salmons ( rest is pretty much frills)

i dont see how that is a move forward even if jackson is pretty good. bogut might need to get out of that shithole, some nba teams will always be comfortable with being nobodies indefinately.

i love bball but i hate the system.

teams should always be trying to move forward but you constantly see puzzling things going on like cash trades and strange moves... like shuffling pieces of crap around a board.

Jackson is a better WINNER then Salmons.
Should add some attitude and killer instinct to Bucks.
Salmons and Maggette were dead weight, didn't seem to be used correctly and are paid way to much money.
Udric will be a good backup PG as well

Should have taken Faried or Montiejunas with the 19th Pick though

Man, the T'Wolves are useless.

Every year, they make some really left field decisions. Like when they drafted Flynn and Rubio together..They could have gotten a decent big from that draft class.

And then today, it seems as though they think that it is best to acquire as many draft picks as possible.
Van Gundy made a really good point, saying that youth alone doesn't win you games.

I support his view that the T'Wolves need to go and get some veterans or some guys with experience. Not overloading the roster with Vets, but putting in 3-4 vets to help guide the young guys.

salmons was good, good defender. i know jackson isnt a move backwards but i dont see how they have gone anywhere lately. udrih as back up pg?? wasnt their first draft pick (# 10) that they traded a pg? so udrih is a better option than than 10th best pick??

nobody ever wants to do the hard yards, just wait til free agency and sign as many guns as possible.

Reply #321578 | Report this post

Aussiebballer

They basically traded Salmons for Jackson, as you say a borderline improvement.

But also traded the 10th pick, plus dumped Maggette (who wasn't playing very well)
for Udric and the 19th pick.

SO it depends if you think they would be better off with Salmons, Maggette and Klay Thompson/Alec Burks or Jackson, Udric and Tobias Harris + some cap relief.

I think you may be right in the long term, but they may be pushing for the playoffs, assuming Bogut is fit and wanted the Vet leadership

Agree with you Aussiebballer, you pretty much summed up the Bucks decision-making process. I think it is a marginal improvement for them, provided Jackson shows up and buys in. I think he will though, because he is a hard nut who will do what it takes to win and that is Skiles kind of player. Udrih will also be useful for them as he will reprise the Ridnour role from two seasons back. The cap relief is also important.

With regard to not getting Jimmer Fredette, the Bucks made the deal before they knew he'd be available. In any case, its clear that Hammond is shaping a roster that is ready to compete now and is not interested in waiting on talent like Fredette to develop.

The Situation (get your own name) and the doctor, fortunately there is a rookie program in place in the NBA and I guess Majok will have enough to buy a GPS at this stage in his career.
Congratulations Majok, you have made Australia proud.
