Top 4 at state champs, occasionally a fifth as well, but not often.
Not always top 4 - we finished 4th and didnt get an invite a couple of years ago.

Word is this year some Tasmanian teams will be invited so it may not be top four in some age groups but top 3
Invites are out, didnt see any Tasy teams named
Clem Scott you were wrong!!
Can this event really be considered a National Classic?
VIC, NSW, SA, ACT.
Not really a truly National event is it?
BA and BV should work together to involve teams from WA and Qld as well as Tassie and then the event will have earnt the National Classic title IMO.
Still, its the toughest and best run junior basketball event in Australia. Just could be bigger and more inclusive.
a complete waste of a weekend to take part in a carnival no better than Norwood's easter
QLD teams in the under 12's
possibly too far to go for WA teams and too costly
bring it

i would rate this way ahead of norwood's easter tourney (which is a good tourney anyway).
college scouts there ?
Forestville in u18g will have a tough weekend - i don't even think they have been in the top 4/5 much over summer or winter.
yes some more states would be - but bear in mind national u16s are in july - so 2 x trips for top W.A. players in u16s withing 5 weeks might be asking too much.
But the other grades....
would be good to see tassie and NT teams.
Think of a mavericks u14 sa country player..
January - albury
march - sa country
may - state champs
june - classics
oct / nov - club u14s
that is a big year !
we would enjoy it in our house - but I understand if anyone says that is huge.
It's a major money spinner for the vics and precious little else no matter how you dress it up.

That is an amazing schedule for any junior player let alone for one that is only turning 13 this year! Hope the kids lap it up and thrive on it rather than get burnt out...
Some of the best teams in the country at junior level playing against one another - and how is that a bad thing?
Victoria without a doubt have the strongest junior program in the nation. they also have the necessary multi-court mega venues (Dandenong / MSAC) to make it happen, and Melbourne is a pretty central location for all the states to get to. More Vic teams in each age group not just because they are the home state, but also because they have enough teams good enough to be in it as well.
