Why are Aussie women so far above men when it comes to basketball on the world stage. Don't basketball powerhouses Spain, The 8 countries that now make up the former Yugoslavia and Lithuania let their women play?

European leagues probably pay well so there might not be as much of an incentive for them to play outside of Europe. Just a guess.

Not sure if your wording is clear, but I can see what you're getting at and the theory has merit. How much stronger would Australian men's basketball be in the absence of AFL?

The really big AFL guys are not outstaningly tall by Basketball standards. Dean Cox, touted as a big mobile ruckman is only listed at 203 cms. Aaron Sandilands, the tallest AFL regular is "only" 211cms, a height that is reasonable for a top level centre.
However, it is perhaps the Nic Naitanuis, Buddy Franklins, etc that would have been physically outstanding in a the 3-4 spots that perhaps would have made a difference.

And it is the 3 spot and the wing-type athlete that the AFL attracts to the detriment of basketball.
Jarry could go 2nd round...Cambage #2.

Israel Folau would make a great shooting guard, unfortunately he loves AFL though.

Agree AFL takes away a lot of good male athletes, but in many of the Euro countries and also in Sth America, Asia there is a lot of Basketball body types involved in volleyball and to a lesser extent handball in Europe and Asia.

Cambage was quite impartial about whose journalistic leg she pulled.
When asked what she'd like. She replied ; 'I'd like .....to be pick number one.'
