How sad to learn of the passing of Paul - our deepest condolences to Nicky. Paul's coaching and teaching were always driven by a team spirit that he passed on to all those who had the privilege of being taught or coached by him. His last actions in this world shows again that he put those around him first and, sadly, even if it meant losing his own life. Paul stuck by his principles even when those 'basketball legends' refused to acknowledge his contribution to the game of basketball.

Paul is a true warrior spirit and will live on in the memories of those that he devoted his life to.

Until next lifetime, when we will all catch up again.

So sorry Nicky for your loss but know that a little of it is shared by those who truly knew Paul.

Kath and Kate Silva

He was a great man of Victorian basketball and will be missed by many.
Have a read of the tributes to him on the Herald Sun website to get a better picture of what kind of bloke Paul was. What a champion.

Paul played for Norwood in the early 90s and was a fabulous bloke, as the tragic circumstances of his death would show. A great coach, teacher, parent and husband, he will be greatly missed.

Had the opprtunity to meet and discuss basketball with Paul many times - there are few coaches in Australia that could match him in combination of coaching ability and passion to see his players improve. I would like to see the powers to be who run basketball in Victoria and BA put something in place to honour this man to ensure his legacy is remembered by those who follow - Melbourne Tigers must take up this challenge and run with it to ensure Paul's committment to our game is held up as a example to those who will follow.

I echo Gary Fox, Basketball authorities need to recognise Paul in some way.
On any training night if there was a break for the girls he would find some younger player on the sidelines and start passing with them, always teaching and challenging the girls both physically and mentally

clearly a annual trophy or reward for junior female player/s in VJBL or Melbourne tigers is a must.

such a sad thing to happen to a lovely man. We met Paul in 2007 at the 12s Schoolgirls nationals in Cairns. Although we were competing against his Vic girls team he was such a competitor and great coach to watch. Since that year and at every nationals he has always remembered my daughter from the nationals and come over and said hello. Such a tragic accident and our thoughts and condolonces go to his family.
