SA boys over ACT men.

No surprises today. All the teams expected to win did. Qld women were pushed by NZ, although there was no Tippett for Qld. I will try and get today's results up tomorrow morning.

Georgia Minear and Peter Hooley were SA's standouts.

Qld pushed by NZ quite literally! A very physical game. No Payne either for Qld. BA seems to think the game didn't happen. Only appears on LiveStats. Not in results or game reports??

Creek was with the 36ers in Perth...not sure if he is going to rock up late but I think u can work it out from the roster...if they posted 10 players already he is done.

Same with Tippett I am guessing..

Vic men only suited up 9 players so one would expect Creek to join them for their 2nd game.

Yes full squad available and playing.

SA were out worked, out strengthed and lacked intensity. Many tines driving to the basket, avoiding defenders worrying about getting blocked instead of taking the ball hard to the rim, and drawing the foul. Perimiter D was good, but allowed too many points in the paint.

Scoring picked up in the second half with SA hitting 38.

Final score, SA 66 - VIC 96.

Turnovers seemed to be a key issue (27-13) and rebounding (33-46) as well as FG% (38-46) and 3pt FG% (25-42).

After a tough 2 point loss to NSW yesterday, it sounds from the previous comment, that the girls struggled to be in the right mindset for today's game. It will be a big challenge for Simon to get them back on track. Hopefully a win against NZ tomorrow and then WA, will help build some confidence before games against QLD and TAS.

SA v TAS

At the half, SA 37 - TAS 35

Carlin having a big game inside.

A bit of a scrappy game with a few wayward passes but entertaining none the less.

My prediction is SA by about 15.

SA vs NSW for top of pool 2

SA 37 - 29 NSW

SA - Carlin 19pts, 2rbs
- Hooley 7pts, 2asts

NSW - Trist 12pts, 2rbs, 2blks
- Aldridge 9pts, 3rbs

Trist is a monster. He was a monster as a first year.

Carlin seems to be having a great game. Hooley 1/6 3s, I would think his shooting will get better as the tourney gets deeper.

Wow tough game, sure they felt it was in their grasp when Hooley hit the big 3. Lots of positives to take out of this game.

Who's their match up in the first cross over? My understanding would be WA, then a Vic semi.

In other news Vic smashed QLD 112-78 with Creek top scoring with 28 and 9.

So shows how big this game was. Tough loss but once again a great effort!

Becuase Casella says we were going to win it from the 3 point arc yet the genuine 3 point shooters have put up less from the arc than the bigs have.

Why is Ellison and Prest shooting so many 3's when Spehr and Isaih aren't.

Just a query. We deleted our U20 comp to follow what was happening interstate on the presumption it would ensure player retention and a pathway to bigger and better things.

Why then do we have a U20 Australian tournament. Does it serve any purpose and should we look at replacing it with an U23 tournament??

U20 Natioanls is a BA event. Other states continue to have U20 competitions, just look at Victoria.

BSA told you otherwise so that they could be seen to be doing something when infact they were NOT following any Nationals trends.

It isn't retaining player, rather stopping over 23 year olds from playing and stopping potential U20 lower division players from continuing, whilst having a worse competition level for 2nd tier players.

BASA destroyed the Under 20 comp when they were forced to go to fully timed Division 1 games.

Moving Under 20's away from the standard "div 1" lowered the profile of the compeition and it ended up a farce.

Under 20's should and could be brough back. Move Under 12 1's away and have a Divison 1 night of Under 14, 16, 18 & 20s.

Then you'll find clubs and players taking it more seriously.

No reason why Under 20s and Youth League can't worked together. Maybe bringing back Under 20s will mean BSA will allow limited overage players, like every other "youth" league in every other sport in Australia.

As soon as I pressed send I considered that.

Centrals, Southern, Sturt, Forestville, Norwood should all play 12s with their Div 1s.

South and Woodville could play at MLC.

North and Eastern at Starplex.

Or get the Dome back on Friday nights for all U12 games.

U20's was a terrible competition to start off with. It should not be classified as a junior competition so should be played mid week. I would rather watch an U12 Div1 game than an U20 game.

Seriously, why do so many people care about U20's? If people put more time and effort into shoring up their juniors the senior comps will be better quality. Instead, at the moment we have terribly skilled and deficient players playing at a very high level.

STop blaming the competition and work on your game.

U20s was a terrible comp because of BSA/BASA

Anyone with a memory that extends to when Under 20s was played at the end of a Division 1 night would know the potential an Under 20 competition has.

There is not the interest in U20 in the girls. They lose numbers from U18's on and U23 was an attempt to keep them interested.
Basketball will be lucky to survive the impact of other sports with the state of stadiums, umpires and costs all contributing as not enough bang for your bucks. Girls are wasting their time playing a sport with no profile or pathway and definitely no money.Unless they are the wider thicker variety of female they should focus on netball which has better press and much, much better looking bodies.

Really girls should play netball?

One professional league in the world. and only a handful of those players get decent $$s.

What kind of crowd did the Thunderbirds get on Sunday? In the one legit netball competition across all 20 countries in the world that play the sport.

Any female wanting to play a sport professionally should be choosing either basketball or soccer (as much as I can't stand soccer).

But surely they should be playing whatever sport they love? That they enjoy?

Under 20 competition died because of BASA. End of story.

"Under 20 competition died because of BASA. End of story"

"U20s was a terrible comp because of BSA/BASA"

Rubbish!

BSA just did the humae thing and pull the cord. People, get over it. It was a terrible comp, terribly coached and really if you are a decent U20 you should be playing Div1 or Reserves.

The right decision was made. Focus on juniors, 19yr olds do not need to be hand held. It was a glorified social comp so they should move on, move up or move out.

ACT men with an eye bulging 42 turnovers vs VIC! 136 v 41 the final margin. SA with a solid victory over WA 81 v 60. In VIC v WA in first round the final was 85 v 57. Every game is different and can't read too much into the WA results, what I will say is either team at their best is good enough to win. Let's hope the SA boys can get it done.

That VIC vs ACT result is quite amazing. Vic had 8 players score in double figures, with Hadziomerovic racking up 33 points and Drmic with 29 leading the way. Idehen was the only ACT player in double figure scoring for tyhe ACT with 12, whilst the next best stat for any other ACT player was the 10 turnovers registered by Svarcas!

Good win by SA over WA in the quarter final 81-60 in a good team performance. The semi against VIC will be pretty tough though.

The semi's are:

VIC vs SA
QLD vs NSW

I hope the SA boys can do it but beating the vics would be the equivalent of The Boomers Beating Team USA... Not the dream team the boomers beating them would have been in an entirely different category again.

Put up a good fight boys and do SA proud against a very strong victorian outfit.

SA had trouble keeping the Vics off the O boards 23 out of 48 total, as well as struggling from 3 (3-14). Creek with 14/30 5/10 3pt 35pts 9 reb 5 as , Drmic with 10/24 5/14 3pt 26pts 5 reb 5 as 4 to. For SA , Hooley had 10/23 0/6 3pt 4/4 ft 25pts 7 reb 4 as 4 to, Spehr 5/10 0/2 3pt 3/4 ft 6 reb 3 as, Carlin 4/10 4/4 ft 8 reb 6 to 2 blk.

Thought SA did a good job forcing a low % 38/97 FG 12/32 3pt but rotations might have been slow and this lead to (along with TO count 10-18) 38 more shot attempts. Hard to beat anyone with those numbers.

Still a realistic chance at bronze, good luck guys.

SA girls gave up a 47-point turnaround between the round game and the bronze medal game against Qld. Talk about lulling them into a false sense of security!

Mitch Norton hit the shot of the tournament (that I saw) in the final. A sweet little swished 15' jumper - as the shot clock went off - having been heaved back in from out of bounds - without hitting the floor. Desperation heave into court with clock on one second becomes a regulation jumper as Norton goes and gets it and calmly swishes it while still in the air.

BA could do much worse than make the second-tier competition an U23 State-based competition if they could guarantee the intensity, athleticism and skill these guys and girls play with.
