ABL points cap proposal

This is somthing that some fotty codes are doing so maybe the ABL could have a look at it, the idea is to encourage clubs to develope thier own juniors.

1. Each club has a total of 15pts
2. A junior player from your club = 0 points
3. A junior player recutied from another club to play ABL = 3 points
4. A NBL player (not from your club as a junior)= 5 points
5. An ABL player from another club = 4 points
6. players that come from interstate = 3 points
7. An over seas player = 5 points

This is only an example and would have to be looked into in more and more clubs would have to look in thier own back yards first (as we all know a salary dose not work anywhere)

Won't work, all it will do is prevent juniors from smaller clubs that are clearly a class above the grade join higher level clubs, and therefore increase development. Coaches at smaller clubs lake the coaching ability to properly develop players. If the coaching problem was fixed, then maybe it could

Anon , Cant agree that smaller clubs are not developing players.
Most clubs have good Div 1 coaches
If you have the talent then very easy to deveop a great team.

AFL has proved that by implementing the draft so the talent gets distirbuted evenly. Look at players that Gold Coast have to work with.

what you need to do is wait until the abl lists are released and then check how many of the players hae played juniors at that club, you will be surprised.

If you ever go around the rep scene in Melbourne and take a look at the smaller clubs. There is always 1 or 2 players clearly playing above the grade their in and the lack common fundamentals, they have the pure athletisicm to be great players, but they are never taught fundamentals. Same happens in the Division clubs around Melbourne. Theres always 1 or 2 players that have been there their entire career so far. But lack fundamentals or can't get the proper development required to make them better players. As a coach at the VC level at u12's i see this happening everywhere. Some of these players if taught the fundamentals and got the correct coaching, could be unbelieveable players.

But it would stop clubs buying premiships and stacking their abl sides and not looking after thier juniors

But it would lead to a lower standard of competition overall, and as players often become coaches, if they're correctly coached and taught, then most likely they'll teach the same things and so on and so on. But if they don't get the correct coaching, it will continue to get worse.
