Import salaries in Australian basketball

Just wondering how much import salary's differ from one league to another, So ABL, SEABL, BIGV, and even NBL.

I know in the BIGV a import that played in Div3 ;last year just got given a full time painting job so It made me think the difference in figures

You have to pay the minimum under immigration laws which is around $650 clear (not sure what the exact figure is)NBL pays the most then SEABL followed by Big V and ABL. Imports usually get a car and a place to live and they top up there money by doing clinics and private coaching.

So the import for Mildura was only given a painting job to play for them, and he put up numbers like that? If that's all he got im sure there are a tonne of clubs chasing him now offering him much more, so thanks for that info Jumpin Jack

Kevin smith would of been very limited in his options as didnt mt gambier release him like a week or two before the season started and every team already had imports in place, so he went to mildura.

As for the job im not sure if an import could hold a job outside of basketball (correct me if im wrong).

There are others on here who know more about employing imports for low-salary basketball positions, but I think it is able to be done. Maybe if it's arranged from the beginning for the purposes of the visa?

There is a reason Kevin smith was on little other than a job, he's not very good. Div.3 big v last season was little better than mid level domestic basketball.
Don't let his numbers fool, its a bush league.

Kevin Smith not very good? The guy was a SEABL import and was putting up pretty solid numbers, close to making the top 5 players from the conference from what i remember.

Doesn't say anything about being able to do other work, although anyone else you bring (wife/kids etc) can.

Players on sporting visa's can only work for the club they are employed by.
With jobs like painting etc they either get paid in cash and hope immigration don't find out or the club sub contracts them to the employer.
It's dodgy but basically compliant.
being from Mt gambier I wouldn't knock Smith he's a good bloke, as for his Hoops skills not for me to say.
We'll see where he ends up I guess.
