Marino and Newley named Lightning co-captains

"When we had a look at the team, it was going to be either Angela or Mia who were going to be captain," Breheny said.

"When we spoke to them independently, both were happy for the other one to captain and to take the role of their assistant or vice-captain."

Instead, Breheny said appointing them as co-captains given their relatively youthful ages seemed a better resolution. Marino is 24 and Newley is 22.

It is a brave call to replace a captain , but i think the correct one. Personally i would have named Mia being a younger person so that she can develop into the role as the team develops over the next couple of years..

Foley was Captain last year not Woosnam.

Woosnam stepped down to concentrate on playing.

Woosnam is no longer a member of the team so it's pointless comparing Marino/Newley to Woosnam.

Well well after 4yrs marino has what he wanted.... Angela is the only point guard on the team and is now co captain.
