Breakers sign Gary Wilkinson

'The Burger King NZ Breakers added another piece to their jigsaw for the upcoming Australian National Basketball League season and with it a clear picture is emerging as to how the two time play off club will play their basketball this season.

The latest recruit is American Gary Wilkinson, a 6'9" native of Utah and star of the 2009 Utah State University side. Wilkinson brings a versatile game to the Burger King Breakers, one that has been on the radar of Head Coach Andrej Lemanis for some time.'

He battled serious problems in HS after getting dropped from his basketball team. Reverted to drugs and alcohol, but then turned it around. Went to Utah State, played there and found God. Interesting background for sure.
Clarke said that he doesnt expect him to be a dominant force in the NBL.

Looks to much like Gruber. They hope he doesn't play like Dave Gruber aswell. All he has to do is pound the boards and play defence when your got guys like Kirk, CJ and Abercrombie.

He is better then Gruber and will be a force in the NBL not many teams will be able to combat his size and he is a workhorse. This is how you succeed in the NBL by being a player who is willing to work.

He is not tall but he looks strong and athletic and has great college stats.

Looks an enforcer type. Probably not as big as Rickert but may be a bit stronger.
If he can score in the lo block then he will be a reasonable substitute. Similar emotional energy as Rickert.
Will be interesting to see if we have the money to afford a Braswell type player for the whole season, or we go for a value player.
