"I think there were 10 Vics selected by Lindsay Gaze for the 72 olympic team that couldn't beat a South Australian team."
at the AOC website - http://www.olympics.com.au/news.cfm?ArticleID=6612
"Of the twelve Australian players in Munich, eleven represented Victorian clubs and the other came from South Australia."
BUT I'm certain that the SA vs VIC game at Apollo where Linde spoke and Gaze was shut down by the crowd, was in 1976, where (I think) there were 9 Vics in the OZ team, 6 from melbourne tigers, and Ken Richardson played for SA. Cos I think I drove out of the stadium that night , & I did not have a licence in 72 ;-).
If you are talking about players who actually performed in the Green and gold, and you are going to put Bradke into PF, then Sengstock trumps Nielsen easily. Ronaldson remains if only for his 3pter and defence to get us over - was it brazil ?
C: Longley, Bogut, Borner
PF: Bradtke, Sengstock, Anstey
SF: Vlahov, Mackinnon, Ronaldson,
SG: Gaze, Palubinskas, - gap - Andy Blikavs
PG: Smythe, C J Bruton
there are a few players who did put on the uniform , but just did not get a fair chance to shine, due to injury or "coaches decision" this is really obvious in the guards. where Werner Linde, Michael Johnson, Ken Cole , David Graham (inj), Bret Maher, Cal Bruton, Danny Morseau (inj), would have been pushing themselves into the list if they had been given as much time and support by the coach as Perry Crosswhite, Nielsen, Jason Smith and even Shane heal got in their time.
I sill can't get Smith and Nielsen being captains of Australian teams, at least we never had to have heal.
