Coach Flynn's Blog - Part 3

Hi Folks,

Well I'll start this blog by saying WOW!!! The NCAA tourney was going along without too much excitment..and then # 14 Bucknell knocks out #3 Kansas (and their All-American Forward Wayne Simieon), #4 Syracue gets ejected by # 13 Vermont and #12 UW - Milwaukee bouonces #5 Alabama...in the FIRST ROUND! Talk about your bracket busters!

The good news is that Bogut's Utes and Schneschers Yellow Jaxkets are through to the second round. Bogut was awesome in his first round game...directing traffic from the high post; anchoring the Ute's defence and leading the break with some great passes. He reminds me of the Sacramento Kings Brad Miller; a big man with soft hands, great touch and a terrific feel for the game. Can't wait to see him make Bookout from Okla look stupid tomorrow at "McKale".

Georgia Tech play Rick Potino's Louisville (who have a point to prove after recievig a #4 seed for the tourney after being in the nation's top ten for most of the season) tomorrow for a spot ini the Sweet 16. Schenscher is crucial to the GT defense... and if Jack, Elder and Bynnam play like they did in the Gw game, the Jax should be right in the game.

On the NBA front, I went to the Phoenix Suns game tonight at the American West Arena. They lost to Baaron Davis and the Warriors in a high scoring affair...B-Diddy and Jason Richardson had some awesome highlights in this one. The best part of the night was the half time entertainment - the Suns inducted ex GM and Coach Cotton Fitszimmons (who passed away from cancer last year) into their 'Ring of Honour'. Everybody who has ment anything to the Suns organisation over the years was at the game paying tribute to Cotton eg Charles BArkley, Kevin Johnson, Dan Marjerle and Jerry Colangelo. It was a very moving ceremony with some terrfic anecdotes from Sir Charles that had the 18 000 strong crowd in stitches.

Go the Sabres.

Liam

PS: For those Sportscentre fans, Pedro Gomez who reports on the baseball for ESPN, sends a shout out to all the hoops fans in Oz. I caught up with him at the bar I was drinking at tonight!..check the man out this afternoon on his spring training report.
