NBA approves Nets' new Russian owner

First controlling owner from outside North America:

The New Jersey Nets are still working toward having a new arena in Brooklyn, but now they know who will be leading that charge.

The NBA approved Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov to take controlling interest of the team on Tuesday. Details of Tuesday's vote were not provided. The purchase had to be approved by three-fourths of the NBA's owners.

"We are pleased that the NBA's Board of Governors approved Mikhail Prokhorov's purchase of majority ownership of the Nets, welcoming into the NBA ownership ranks the league's first majority investor from outside of North America," NBA commissioner David Stern said in a statement.
Wonder what influence he'll bring, if anything in particular?

Nice thread Isaac. Genuinely suprised it didnt garner more comment. This was run on foxtel a month or two ago. Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov is a basketball junkie. He has his own court in his house. The Nets could make a massive splurge if he does it his way and just says to hell with the salary cap. Also had an interesting run in with the law over prostitutes which was pretty amusing.
