Bennett Davison signs with Blaze

The Gold Coast Blaze are pleased to announce the signing of their first import for season 2010/11 in Bennett Davison.

With the Blaze still to sign a second import, they are looking like a strong team on paper.
It will be interesting to see who they pick up as import #2, will they bring back Ubaka or go with a fresh face?

Well I gave you all a reprieve following HSH but Im back...

Absolutely fantastic signing, great guy to have in your locker room and you only saw him coming off a very light lead in at the brothers get together in Adelaide.

Thing is just hope people dont expect he will have 20 and 10 because he dont need to with that squad. Very healthy front line its now time for one legit perimeter scorer to take the pressure off Harves and then they look real tough.

Ohh Ahh Ebi Ere...

nice signing... good dude to have around, and good fun off court when he was in Adelaide for HSH, so hopefully he will be as much fun on court for the Blaze

When was he in the league last? Around 2001? That's a long time ago. I remember his athleticism being a big part of his game. I'm predicting this as a bust signing.

Doc, did you see any of HSH? He's aged, but he can still jump. Not sure if he'd be much different to recent guys like Melzer. Must be something up with Maxey if they didn't just keep him?

Why would the Blaze want Homicide when they have one of the best Australian point guards in Gibson, then strong shooting guards in Harvey and Goulding? Just get a Rhys Carter-type as back-up PG and things are on track.

Gibson/Carter
Harvey/Goulding (Goulding could even start)
Petrie
Davison
Rickert

Not sure if Maxey is a good fit for Adelaide. As much a PF as a SF (and we need a SF primarily, I would've said) and as I said, probably something going on if the Blaze didn't just keep him?

I saw some of the HSH, and saw Davison play once. Didn't see anything particularly outstanding from him in that game.

Is it the case that the Blaze are signing him as more of a role player? Would he be coming cheap? I suppose a 'bust' is judged relative to expectation - if he's signed to be a solid role player and he delivers on that, then he's fulfilled his role.

maxey isn't an alcoholic and is in a solid relationship so maybe blaze didnt fit what he was looking for ?
just throwing that out there..

Good call with Adam Gibson . Has he signed ? I thought he was on the move which is why I mentioned Corey . Rhys Carter would be a great fit I think maybe a scoring import who doesn't demand the ball to much , someone like ere would take shots away from goulding and Harvey as well as Gibson , so I'm not sure whose out there , maybe groves , wasn't dominant but could score it , or maybe they go after a bigger body like Galen young .

Gibson would've been re-signed straight after Goulding you'd think. Huge advantage for any team, IMO. Groves is the last thing they need with Goulding and Harvey there. Could do more with Young I think who'd give them inside muscle to complement Davison and Rickert.

Gibson has one more year left to run on his contract. He is off contract at the end of 2010/11

gibson and rhys carter played well to win that championship for the dragons a couple of years back hopefully they can reunite and get another championship.

Donta Smith should be on the sixers radar.

Oops, forgot Garlepp and Hoare in that roster further up. Blaze are getting closer to wrapping up their roster.

I think someone like martin iti should be signed instead of vanderjagt then they would be looking pretty strong.

Rickert/Iti
Davison/Petrie
Import/Brad Williamson
Harvey/Goulding
Gibbo/Carter

stephen hoare at backup 3 or 4 he already signed. Iti is only 4 points on nbl points system and is putting up reasonable numbers in nzbl.

Hated this guy's attitude in HSH. Showed some game but had some huge missing streaks and went off repeatedly at the refs for the weakest of reasons. Struck me as a real Douchebag but good luck to him/them.

Rickert(10)/Iti(4)
Davison(10?)/Garlepp(3)
Petrie(7?)/Hoare(8)
Harvey(9?)/Goulding(5?)
Gibson(8?)/Carter(6?)

They wouldnt have enough points to get another import would they. thats 70 points above

They still have 14 points for 2 players I think.
(Goulding as a 1).

So far they've signed:
C: Rickert
PF: Petrie/Garlepp
SF: Davison/Hoare
SG: Harvey/Goulding
PG: Gibson

That team is pretty ridiculous as is. They could still add Rolan Roberts and Rhys Carter to that if they had the salary for it.

C: Rickert/Garlepp
PF: Roberts/Petrie
SF: Davison/Hoare
SG: Harvey/Goulding
PG: Gibson/Rhys Carter

If they could fit that team in the salary cap, possibly Storm style, even Perth with their 79 points would struggle to better that.

Is this Bennett Davison who played for the Melbourne Tigers?

Can't find any photos of Bennett playing for Gold Coast?
