Hawks retain Davidson, Campbell, Martin, Coenraad

The Wollongong Hawks started the free agency frenzy in mighty fashion by announcing Larry Davidson, Mat Campbell, Rhys Martin and Tim Coenraad would be back for 2010-11 and beyond.

The NBL runners-up revealed the quartet agreed to two-year deals just minutes before the free agency period started at 5pm yesterday.
They're also hopeful of getting Glen Saville and Cam Tragardh locked in, but rumour has it that Tragardh could be poached by the Tigers.

From Adelaide Now today re Tragardh:

"I think Cam has just signed (to play NBL) with Melbourne Tigers so he withdrew from this series," Fleet coach Ken Cole said. "Without him we are quite undersized.

If that is true, I doubt Ballinger will be a tiger as the play the same role

Tragardh played mostly C for the Hawks. Ballinger is primarily a PF. There's some overlap but no reason the Tigers couldn't have something like:

Homicide
Hodge
Greer
Ballinger
Tragardh

Trigger is a PF.

My mistake. I still think they could play the two roles together. The traditional centre is out of fashion in the NBL.

How is Gruber's citizenship going? The reality for the Hawks is that with Trahardh they can now get a more mobile pf who can defend better, whether that be an Aussie or an import.

They also can swing Davidson to the pf and play Behrendorff (assuming the yre-sign him) and the 5 more.

Rest assured, they will be fine. Remember when everyone though McKee was the guy unbelievably making them competitive, and then he went down and they kept second spot? McLeod is a genius and he will have them competitive again.
