40 Minute Games in the NBL before 2009-10?

Just a question I've been asking myself for whatever reason today...

Did the NBL used to play 40 minute games at any point prior to the 2009-10 season? If so, when did it change to 48 minutes? Or has it always been a 48 minute game until this season?

Thanks to any one who responds.

Since ive been going to the games it used to be 12 minute quarters. pre 1990's im not sure but at a guess id say its always been 12 minutes. but throughout the 90's they did 12 minute quarters and this season was the NBL lining up with the FIBA rules.

Feel free to correct me if im wrong but thats my understanding for the changes?

In 1979 40 minutes with no 3 point line this year the line is pushed out 500mm at the top not at the sides. that was not the question but I added it. Not sure when it changed but would have been early 1980's The 3 point line in the NBA is still further out

They were playing 48 minute games in 1985, when I first started going to 36ers' games.

I think Al Green set the scoring record (points in a single game) was set in a 40 minute game in 1982. Someone else may be able to confirm or correct that?

If that's right, the change would have been in 1983, '84 or '85.

Peter, that's incorrect. Al Green scored his 71 points in a 48 minute game. Reg Biddings scored 63 in a 40 minute game in 1981 or 1982. I think it changed to 48 minutes in 1983 or 1984 but not entirely sure.

If you have a look at the old NBL games on youtube you will see that 1983 played 20 minute halfs and had no 3pt line.

In 1984 the introduced 12 minute quarters and the 3pt line.
