Thats why they should make it u/23s, Then you will have more teams that will take it more seriousiy... I think you will find most of the sturt u/20s will be involved in abl so they might not play 20s, And you will find alot more players missing from u/20 due to abl from other clubs,Its time for BSA to bite the bullet and change it to u/23s or the up comming season or it is going to be very poor in the 20s........

just change the night to wednesday and they can play reserves and under 20's, easy fix

No that won't work either. Some ABL teams train Wednesdays. The ones that don't train Wednesday train Thursday which means they will have trainings and games 4 nights in a row which doesn't work either.

Moving Under 20/21s to Tuesday was a good idea for the players that play ABL, as it meant they didn't have to play 20/21s on Friday and then back up Saturday night.

The solution is simple. Allow them to play 20/21s AND Div 2, if the schedule allows it. Most 20/21s games are 6:00 or 7:20. Most Div 2 games are later. It is a better solution than the current one while still not being perfect.

if it aint broken dont fix it - so why was it moved in the first plavce it was working - no real dramas now all that has happenerd is a comp that was legit has been devalued and pount reinforced by BSA NOT EVEN BOTHERING TO ENSURE ALL TEAMS PLAY THE ALL IMPORTANT CATCH UP GAMES THAT ONCE JUST HAD TO BE PLAYED EVEN WHEN KIDS HAD COMMITMENTS TO OTHER SPORTS ON SUNDAY OR PLANNED FAMILY EVENTS
not happy

It was broken, that's why the change was made. It will be much better for 20s players who play ABL to play Tuesday night IF they can also play Div 2. The comp was a joke on Friday night. It's still a joke but with one change it can be saved. It's also a better transition to an eventual 23s comp on Tuesday night.

How exactly does it improve anything.

The number of U20 teams is down.

The standard of the div 2 comp is unchanged.

If they go to U23 what happens to the 3rd and 4th guy over 23 who isn't allowed to play? And will it be a comp that 17 year olds fresh out of juniors will want to play in on a midweek when they might still have school?

Plus, we now have a massive overflow of available courts on fridays which means BSA is bleeding money. Because they are wasting money on Marion leisure cente, not only paying court hire, but also paying an extra umprire in charge, a door keeper and losing canteen revenue from district clubs who support BSA to the tune of about $1M.

Yeah BSA is doing a great job! (insert sarcasm here)

It's really quite simple - remove the U20/U21 as a "junior" league completely. Make no changes to the current senior structure. Juniors move into Senior basketball. The onus is on each club to manage the transition for its top age U18s (from Div 1 to the lowest Div) into Seniors.

make the U20 mens comp under 21, gives kids an extra year to develop, U23 will be a disaster, there is a huge difference between a 17 year old boy and a 22 year old male. Kids will leave the sport, they will go play under 19 football, soccer or 20/20 cricket.

BSA need to fix the situation and fix it quickly, the fact that all teams didnt play each other twice is another joke.

enjoythe game - how will U 23 fix it - can't see the age change fixing anything.

With many U20 players doing the right thing and coaching teams the move of playing Div 2 games on a Friday meant moving the U20 comp or lose them as coaches due to timing conflicts.

The comment on reserve players playing Div 2 - I haven't observed any players in that comp that in my mind were reserve grade quality.

The state champs though are interesting. I can't see anything wrong with having an U20 player who is playing reserves and not U20's on Tuesday nights playing state champs at Div 1 level. What happens with any displaced U20 Div 1 player - Can he play Div 2 then???

Look its pretty simple. Either play ABA/ reserves OR u20's Division 1. Not both. If your good enough to play ABA then you shouldn't be playing U20's.

572, I disagree. This only weakens and devalues Under 20 Div 1 comp which is the problem. We want the best players playing in under 20 div 1 every week not just at State Champs time.

having an u/23s will have a bigger pool of players to pick from which will make the comp stronger, Some clubs are lucky to have 10 players at u/20s because of the stupid 6.00 games by this age some boys are working or at tafe and struggle to make the games at least if you open the age gap you should be able to get more players.... and dont worry if your son is good enough and is only 18/19 they should still be able to make the team...It would also have more players in div 2 which would make that comp stronger too.....And why u/20s play state champs when its classed as a junior comp and at most clubs u/20s are classed as seniors has got me beat! (maybe so bsa can get the last drop of money out of the players)

enjoythegame,

1/ There will not be a Div 2 comp! Only div 3 and below because95% of the people from div 2 will be playing U23.

2/ How will that make the U23 comp stronger. It will be 95% of the current div 2 players in the competition. So it wont be as strong as div 2 because 5% of current eligible Div 2 players wont be playing.

3/ How will it benefit BSA's profitability when these playes cannot play both like they used to be able too?

We were told that they didn't have enough courts on Friday nights to keep the U20 competition. Now we have nights and especially saturday morning where stadiums are sitting half empty.

And a lot dont want to play 6pm games on a tuesday or wednesday night due to work and tafe commitments.

but making them do so has only worsened BSA's and clubs revenue.

I agree with LOL - 6 o'clock games are horrendous for this age group. Delay the games by an hour and I think concerns about numbers will be significantly reduced.

it would be nice to play at your home stadium as well, rather than just the dome and pasadena and port adelaide, got a beautifull new stadium at morphett vale and most the guys wont get to play there unless they get programed during state champs, also good for younger kids to stay and watch the under 20's friday nights.

BSA revenue is guaranteed by the forfeits - 8 in the U21 girls so far this season. For the girls we already have an U23 competition - it's called ABA
