Ingracious in victory, then you lose in OT

http://linky.com.au/ybyr2

In summation : high school team hits three to win. Then gloat. Then get T'd up, and the game goes to OT ... and the gloaters lose ...
Moral : always stay classy in victory.

Could never happen in FIBA Basketball. Once siren has sounded and one team is in front, any other incident has to reported by the official for the administration to determine any sanction. A technical foul after the final siren cannot change the result of the game. Takes the floor officials out of the equation.

Julius was about as ingracious in victory as you can get.
Give him a tech for both times he stomped on Maher's name.
Ballinger steps up and knocks down all 4 free throws.
Adelaide win.

Neville, are you sure?
Granted, it's been a while since I've looked at the rulebook (and it may have since changed), but I was under the impression that the game is still officially in progress until the scoresheet has been signed, and that technical fouls could still be assessed (with free-throws awarded) up until that point.

Haven't studied the rulebook lately but I'm thinking what the refs did was right - the game isn't over until the refs say it is.

Melvin, disappointed you couldn't find any video to go with yet another obscure find. Only a 5/10 score this time. Where's the footage??!!

Game is not complete until the referee signals it's completion, whether the siren has sounded or not.

For those who are too lazy to check out the rules on fiba.com

Article 9.8 A period, extra period or game shall end when the game clock signal sounds for the
end of playing time.

Article 46.9 Approve and sign the scoresheet at the end of playing time, terminating the officials' administration and connection with the game. The officials' power shall begin when they arrive on the playing court twenty (20) minutes before the game is scheduled to begin, and end with the end of the playing time as approved by the officials.

Aricle 46.10 Record, on the reverse side of the scoresheet, before signing it, any forfeit, any
disqualifying foul or unsportsmanlike behaviour by players, coaches, assistant coaches or team followers that occurs prior to the twenty (20) minutes before the game is scheduled to begin, or between the end of playing time and the approval
and signing of the scoresheet. In such a case, the referee (commissioner, if present)must send a detailed report to the organising body of the competition.

Hope the helps you understanding!

In other words, extremely unlikely to happen at FIBA level; unless, for example, someone pulls a gun after the siren! ;)

So by the letter of the law, the umpires cannot issue a penalty (such as free throws) after they have acknowledged the siren has sounded, but they must issue a report for any USF type fouls after the siren?

"The officials power shall.....end with the end of playing time....."
