Dropping second team in a division

Is it true that for the winter season, if an age group has 2 teams in a division, eg north adelaide and sturt in under 18 div 2, they will be dropped automatically to div 3 for the winter season, making the div 2 teams a total of 10 teams instead of 12

Should occur, but then again who pulls the strings at BSA?

theres no need to drop the teams, no team has a bye everyone playes each week and it makes the div 3 comp unfair with div 2 players playing in div 3

There is no need but watch it happen, just like there was no need to shift under twenty games to Tuesday night and play 8 minute quarters

Try going to the website and reading the information about the competition.

Maybe then you'll see there is a reason and purpose for all of the changes.

website says bringing in 10 teams for div 2 but gradually doing it. So the question is will the u18 div 2 ony have 10 teams for winter or stay with 12 this year. I know some of the younger age groups they only have 10, but it wasnt' clear when all age groups would be reduced to 10. Not questioning why they are doing it, just wondering if it will happen for this winter season, as they are grading div 3 and below for the winter season

U 14's will be in 2011 summer season. ie when the current top age U12's are top age U14's.

U16's will be in 2013 summer season. ie when the current top age U12's are yop age U16's.

So to answer the original question.

No. Only the U12 div 2 competition will have 10 teams for this and next year. BSA in their infinite wisdom saw the effect of dropping div 2 teams to div 3 and long more than 10 kids from basketball into other sports.

i guess this might be driving the Magic - Woodville merger. Is there any others on the horizon perhaps North of the Torrens!!!

I have thought about it. Good and bad if it does happen however it leaves a couple of other clubs becoming relatively smaller - How long can we continue to have small clubs who don't field Div 1 teams in each grade

If you are thinking of a TV-NA merger, you could be off the mark. Why would you go from being an individual in a family friendly club to just another number?

and won't these non member teams also gave a problem fielding a team in div two later on?

In my opinion, if BSA are trying to keep clubs from having two teams in division two, then they should allow non member teams like Torrens Valley and Western Magic to field a division two team, even if it means staying with 12 teams in division two. That will allow players that just miss out on playing in their clubs division two team to move to one of these clubs and make them stronger. Once these teams become stronger, they should be allowed to put in teams to division 1. As it stands at the moment no one will want to move to these clubs because all they can play is division 3. There are some age groups where some division 2 teams wouldn't beat the top division 3 teams, but the division 3 teams can't go up and play division 2 where they belong. If BSA want an even competion, they need to make some changes for the better as there are a lot of upset coaches, players and parents out there who will just walk away from the game.

and the other thing we need is to make sure that we have all 10 clubs fielding a Div 1 team. At the moment it is ludicrous that the elite level has byes. These clubs have to find a way to field teams whether it be merging or aligning in some way with non member clubs, not allowing them to field Div 2 teams until they field a Div 1 team (I know this is an issue if the team is not up to that level but at least it might force the club to act)or allowing another team to fill the bye. My preference is to offer the spot to non member clubs first with the second option being two teams from one club.

Some Div 2 kids played in Div 3 last winter anyway .Forestville Blue went through indefeated in Div 3 with some of these boys now playing Div 1 Under 20's in Summer.I think BSA needs to consider the way they grade teams from 2 years ago,so they end up with a fair comp for all players.
