Jungle Ball

Sounds like most refs this weekend were happy to put their whistles away. It was jungle ball at wayville in the sabres/eagles womens QF, the eagles coming away with the win. Cant remember the score but it was double figures. Rachael Flanagan and Cherie Smith dominated for the eagles and for the Sabres no one really stood out. Jess Mahony worked her hardest as usual but no one really backed her up, Monique Bowley hit about 4 threes in the last quarter in an attempt to salvage the game but it was a bit too late.

If you think things are going to get any better soon think again. The State's Director of Referees recently resigned due to personal reasons and I don't doubt his own frustration with the BASA management.

I won't go into details but recent decissions by BASA have proven once again that BASA, like most uninformed spectators see referees as a necessary evil.

BASA are soley responsible for the development of referees in this state and are failing miserably. They have done this for many years and all would be aware of the serious lack of depth in S.A. refereeing ranks.

As refereeing standards drop so to will the standard of basketball being played.

Conditions, pay, rostering, feedback, politics are all major concerns of referees in this state. It's a shame for them that no-one seems to care.
