BALLINGER WINS NBL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Adam Ballinger has become the second Adelaide 36er in as many weeks to take out the National Basketball League's Player of the Week award, after being named the recipient of the award for Round Seven.
Ballinger follows in the footsteps of Sixers teammate John Gilchrist, who was recently named the weekly award winner for Round Six.
'Balls’ scored a round-high 36 points and added 11 rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block to carry the 36ers to a thrilling 80-77 victory over the Gold Coast Blaze on Saturday night on the Brett Maher Court at the Distinctive Homes Dome. His 36-point haul was the second-highest individual tally for the season, behind only Corey ‘Homicide’ Williams’ 37 on 16 October for Townsville.
Ballinger went 15-of-24 from the field, including a perfect 6-of-6 from the three-point line, as he racked up 21 points by halftime. He also scored nine of his team’s 18 final quarter points as the 36ers fought back from an eight-point deficit at the final change to record the win.
Perth’s Shawn Redhage was another leading contender for the weekly honour. The Wildcats’ forward scored 22 points and added nine rebounds as his team remained perfect at home with a 94-74 victory over pre-season favourites New Zealand at Challenge Stadium on Sunday.
Wollongong pair Tywain McKee and Cameron Tragardh were also both top prospects for Player of the Week in Round Seven.
Tragardh averaged 18.0 points and 5.3 rebounds and McKee 17.7 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.3 assists over their team’s gruelling three games, finishing the week with a 2-1 record.
Cairns Taipans’ star Dusty Rychart also was in contention, having scored 16 points and added 13 rebounds and five assists for the Taipans in their 89-78 home victory over Wollongong on Friday night.
Other leading contenders for the NBL Player of the Week in Round Seven included Mark Worthington (Melbourne), Julien ‘Skip’ Mills (Cairns), Erron Maxey (Gold Coast), Adam Gibson (Gold Coast), Stephen Weigh (Perth), John Gilchrist (Adelaide) and Luke Schenscher (Perth).

I think most knew on Saturday that Ballinger was the winner.
and, well done Tolo.
Sometimes I wonder (seems mainly with the girls)
when a player has good stats in half a game, and another slightly better in a full game
if minutes are considered ?

I think this year though the League MVP will be going to a guard.
If Kirk doesn't come back and blow away the league again, I would be looking easily to Homicide as the likely candidate with Gilchrist close behind.
Have to see what report comes back in the next couple of weeks to finalize it but based from stats, you'd have to look at one of these.
