Wow thats nearly 40 players there LC. Thats an impressive presence in US ball for Aussie players. It would be interesting to know if any other nation can claim to have as many players in Div 1 college. Perhaps Canada?

I don't suppose you follow this closely enough to know if this is an unusally large crop of Aussies, or if this is a common amount? Any trends?

This year's influx IMO way well be up there as being the most ever! There were quite a few players in the last crop of recent graduates though too, so that year level was quite high as well.

I'm positive there wil be at least 2-3 extras to go on that list as well s I am sure I have missed a few.

PS: There is also likely to be at least another 20 or so playing Div II, and even more playing at the lower rungs as well.

Chris Clausen / Jr / G/F / North Dakota / North East

Good one!

If Dom Cooks is now at Chaminade he will be playing with fellow Aussie and Sophomore Chris Smith. But correct me if I am wrong, Chaminade is a member of the Pac West conference in Division II, not Div I.

Yeah, Chaminade is Div II

=====

Dom Cooks' first taste of American college basketball didn't pan out the way he planned.

Shortly after arriving in the US 12 months ago, the former Illawarra and NSW junior representative wrecked his ankle during one of his first training sessions with Utah State University.

"It was tough at times, especially getting injured," Cooks said. "I was in a boot and on crutches for about four months and that was pretty frustrating, especially with the snow in Utah. It wasn't much fun trying to get around on crutches in snow."

On Thursday Cooks heads back overseas, this time to take up a scholarship with Chaminade University, a Division II college smack bang in the middle of sunny Honolulu.

i think players getting D1 gigs isnt that great of a thing anymore, there are plenty of players playing 'lower' grades that are way better than some of these guys. half of these guys will be sitting on the end of the bench for most their careers whereas guys playin d2 or naia will get alot of time which will do alot better for thier development and their time over there.

Anon - do agree in part. Guys like Barlow and Worthington are testament to that.

However we hav some serious talent over there right now, and quite a few guys pushing for a shot at the NBA over the next 1-3 years.

oh yeah, definetly have real good talent for the top guys like ogilvy etc. but half the list would benefit alot more in a lower division and actually getting clock.

One Div II guy who is very strong and could get good playing time in Div I would include Ben Magden (Augusta State).

I think soon there will be a very high percentage of Australian players in college. In the list above you may have missed some players, but still thats alot. I think the main reason for Australians going to the US is the lack of pathways in Australia. Because after you finish under 20's where do you go? SEABL? That isn't so much a great basketball pathway, because you will probably have to get a full time job aswell. But with college you get great basketball experience and most likly a degree of some sort. And lets be honest what European or Asian team will take a SEABL player over a US college player?
