Adelaide Trip

I'm thinking of finally making the trip to Adelaide for the Crocs double header - 9th of October against the 6ers then 10th against the Tigers.

I would make the trip to Adelaide a few days earlier to check out the place and as I've never been to Adelaide what should I expect?

Will the 6ers fans at the Dome turn it on for me?

Precious little I'm afraid.

And lots of South Australians, as if the place itself isn't bad enough.

DJ Rod, I'm from Adelaide, lived in Townsville (now in Melbourne) and it's definitely bigger than Townsville, definitely greener and to be honest, no where near as many rednecks ;)

Weather not as warm or humid, no stingers at the beach, stadium not as close to city hotspots as Townsville, no Wednesday night wet-tshirt competitions and page 3 girls in local newspaper, beer WAY better (struggle to find XXXX Gold in Adelaide, stick to Coopers).

And lastly, basketball team way better ;)

Adelaide is a beautiful, too many people bag it, usually the ones who don't leave their own suburb, or couch for that matter...

So i'll be the proud South Aussie and let you know some places of interest.

Some beautiful spots to check out are the Barossa Valley. This attracts tourists from all corners of the globe. If you're into your food, wine & culture, you have to go for a day trip! Only an hour North of Adelaide. Just need to hop on google to look at day tours that leave from the city. Will be gorgeous at that time of year.

The Adelaide Hills have some fantastic spots for wining, dining and scenery. Places like Hahndorf, Sterling. 30 mins east of Adelaide.

Victor Harbor is always nice, beautiful coast line and lovely spots to eat. 1 hour south of Adelaide.

In the city are the botanical gardens, sounds corny, but actually a really pretty spot to stroll through. And obviously we have the usual Museum, Art Gallery etc

The East End markets are a buzz on the weekends and selected week days. It's a true market, that is surrounded by "china town" Endless places to eat.

There is our main shopping strip, Rundle Mall. Would be similar to the main strip in Townsville i'd imagine (sorry haven't been there before) but obviously a huge range of shops, fast food etc etc

The casino is always a go-er on a Fri and Sat night. Always busy and live entertainment.. recommending this as I don't know what sort of scene youare into. Anyone can enjoy the casino.

The weather will be really nice in Oct, beautiful spring days.. A great thing to do is hire bikes in the city (via the council) and do the Torrens River Ride. There is a trail going right along the river, through the city. It's great!

Anyway.... these are a few things off the top of my head. Definitely recommend you to come, as once people actually check out city out they realise it isn't as bad as everyone (inc the locals) say it is.. it's "heaps good"!!

Doubt Adelaide is greener than Townsville Rod! Not much rain down here at all usually but its greener than usual now cause we actually had a little rain. Normally not that green. Compared to Townsville in wet FNQ.

Good city tho and great basketball stadium. Best and biggest supporter base in Aus, closely followed by Townsville and Perth.

I have always rated Adelaide as the best and smartest fans in the NBL!

That is one thing I am looking forward to... being at a 6ers home game

Radelide: Our mall is dead set deserted! we have about 15 shops left in it... shopping is dead in Townsville.

Phizzer: I hate XXXX Gold - Coopers sounds like a dream come true!

Radelaide, Did you mean to say the Central Markets instead of the East End Markets?

DJ Rod- Hang out at the Central Markets on Sunday morning and grab a coffee. It is nothing like the Victoria Markets in Melbourne, it is all produce vendors but the smells and sounds are great and it is all undercover. Great atmosphere

Night life is best on Friday and Saturday night in Rundle Street (east of the Rundle Mall) so perhaps stay close to the city. Spend thursday in the Barossa or McLaren Vale and perhaps take in a cruise up the Port River (depart from Port Adelaide). The cruise is nothing overly spectacular, but still worthy of an hour of your life. Also check out Adelaide Oval from Light's Vision in North Adelaide (it will probably still be under-construction but a great sight none the less).

Bottom line, come with a great attitude and it will be a great time, but I figure you know that already

Suprisingly, Port Adelaide is worth a visit and has plenty to do.

Lunch at the Grange Jetty cafe - is that still going?

Barossa is a definite, but try McLaren Vale too - Kangarilla Road Winery is the local's pick.

Grange Jetty Kiosk got turned into a cafe. Last time I went there it was so poor that we walked out and ate at the hotel.

The Adelaide Hills is a really nice region for wine tasting also. Have tasted in McLaren Vale, Barossa Valley, Margaret River and the Hills in the last couple of months, and the Hills area is easily as picturesque as the others.

There is a great Seafood Restaurant called "Sammy's" in Glenelg. I highly recommend it if your a seafood lover. It's in a really nice location also. Ate there twice and both times were brilliant. :)
