High Performance General Manager: Wayne Carroll

As rumoured on Hoops yesterday, Wayne Carroll has been appointed to the newly-created position of High Performance General Manager.

Sengstock said Carroll's appointment was another significant advance for the sport and another example of basketball's commitment to the reform process and its adherence to the recommendations of the High Performance review.

"Wayne will hit the ground running with his first task to review the elite pathways from club through to Olympic level," Sengstock said. "Too many of our young stars are lost to other sports because we don't offer a logical pathway for them to achieve their aspirations to make a career out of playing the game that they love basketball. By fixing this aspect of our sport, we will retain more players at the elite levels while encouraging younger players through the aspiration to emulate their heroes. This is a critical initial focus for Wayne that will have significant benefit to the grassroots of the sport.

"Wayne Carroll is the perfect fit for this role, as he has a wealth of knowledge about elite basketball combined with significant business and people management skills," Sengstock added. "We are lucky to have him further strengthen BA's senior management team."

What has Carroll been doing in the past 20 years to warrant this appointment? I'm not bagging the decision, just asking for more detail.

Carroll joins BA from his own promotional business, Carroll Promotions, having accumulated over 20 years of commercial experience.

this looks horribly like a "jobs for the boys" appointment. This position could have ideally done with an AIS type high flyer or a senior HP manager from another key olympic sport such as rowing or cycling.

Wayne is a great guy, but this is seriously 'one for the boys' appointment.

Wayne has done nothing for the last 20 years except add on 35 kilios.

Lukes like nothing has changed, the boys look after the boys.

Crazy appointment

That was Phil talking to Larry, just then. He said Wayne and Larry are still arguing about a bad pass from when they played, and probably will still be talking about it, now they are in the same office

Says the guy who claimed that Carroll's one achievement in twenty years was putting on weight, and that he'd only been given the job because of bias from the selector(s)?

Taking time off from calling Keeble?
