Hawks sign ex-Breaker Tim Behrendorff

The Wollongong Hawks have announced the signing of 211cm big man Tim Behrendorff as a new addition to the club for the 2009/10 NBL season.

At 27 years of age, the Queensland-born centre has five seasons under his belt in the NBL with the past four seasons with the New Zealand Breakers.

Behrendorff has just finished a breakout season with the Christchurch Cougars in the New Zealand National Basketball League averaging 18 points per game and finishing in the top ten in rebounding, blocked shots and field goal percentage.

Decent option for them as while Behrendorff didn't really come along far enough with NZ, he wasn't getting loads of minutes and has since upped his intensity in the NZ NBL to impress for a new contract.

You would assume that the Hawks might run with Tragardh as starting PF and Tim backing up at C, or run Cam and Tim at C and get an import PF. Maybe someone affordable like ex-Spirit import Gruber?

-'Maybe someone affordable like ex-Spirit import Gruber?'

That would really entice the Hawk fans to come back in droves! if the organization does decide to go cheap and ugly, I will guarantee you the club will not be around next season.

If on a budget, they may only be able to afford a second import if it's more of a budget option. Gruber could fit that bill - affordable, but was very efficient in his minutes. Remember that Rychart and Redhage both came into the league from fairly similar starts.

Another club which should go with a single import strategy .

I disagree. They should go with one standard import, and then a budget guy like Gruber. Look at the FA list - the alternative is going to be someone like Janev at PF, whereas Gruber was quite efficient in his few minutes.

There are several good players out there still and while Blagoj would do a good job if given the chance,
the Hawks should look at Ben Knight who is not yet signed by any team !
