36ERS on track, finalising deal

SOS team states it's just a matter of "I dotting and T crossing" to finalise the deal with both the team and the stadium lease.

The article mentions 2 marketing people been made redundant.

I assume the first to go was Katie?

Mark Lewis.. head of SA company Bernie Lewis Home Loans also revealed he had appointed a so-far unnamed general manager and met with Distinctive Homes Dome owner Eddy Groves to hammer out a new lease agreement on the Sixers' home stadium.

He said the executive appointment was an identity "involved in basketball for a long time", who was not a well-known public figure. The Sunday Mail understands terms of a new lease at the Findon courts are close to finalised, with only a catering agreement to be resolved with Groves.

hmmm, I wonder who this could be.

Jack, either through structural changes or personal decisions from the staff in question, I don't believe any of the staff are staying on.

Of the 5 office staff the 36ers had, 2 will remain.

Ben Fitz will be named as General Manager IMO

With so much work still to be done and only a couple of people left in the office, it will be interesting to see the timeframe for season ticket renewal. It will also be interesting to see if they can maintain the prices!

With Fitzy being outed a couple of posts above, anyone care to provide the forum with a brief rundown of his CV?

I would imagine it is Paul Bell who got the job.

Jack, Ben is a good mixture of a few things around basketball - loves the game, has played for years, worked with the 36ers doing the music for years and more recently helped with game nights. Also follows motor racing really closely and is involved with rallies (you might remember the post about him being navigator for a winning car at Classic Adelaide not too long ago). Professionally, his thing is real estate. Were he picked for this role, I think he'd bring something that's been lacking for a while - someone who makes calls and does deals. Theory is great, ideas are great, writing the book on it all is great, but you need someone to make it happen and get things done.

Like 44, I did wonder if Belly would put his hand up for a role. I guess we'll see what happens.

It would certainly be a bit of a conflict of interest if it was Paul Bell.
Imagine if your agent was Paul Bell and he is employing you for the 36ers. You certainly wouldnt get the best deal then would you. On one side he would be negotiating with himself for the best package for you as a player and on the other side he would be negotiating the lowest price for the 36ers organisation. Not the ideal set up.

I believe when Paul was involved a couple of years back in buying the team he was going to step aside from his agent business.

I'd be leaning towards Ben Fitz as he's had a working relationship with one of the SOS, has a good business background and knows how things work at the dome.

The right man for the job... IMO.

A lot of interesting speculation going on there. Gotta love some good speculation. Patience is a virtue and I am sure SOS will reveal all in the fullness of time!!!!
