U18 - SA Country Men vs Tasmania

This would be a hard loss to swallow... They led quite a few statistics, but didn't finish off... This loss that should/could have been a win might come back to haunt them!

U18 - SA Metro Women vs ACT Women

Dominating display! 5 Players in double digits for point scoring.

Could be a ALL SA Women Final with the Country girls also up by 14 at the moment over Tasmania.

Piriepanther,

Not sure where you got your mail. SAC were never going to beat TAS, they've done well to get that close. I would not be surprised in Tassie made a Semi final this year, maybe even the final if the get the right match up in the semi. Their a little short, but this won't stop them. Greenwood 3 assists short of a TD and he'll play more then 34 minutes in most games throughout the week. 7-1 Assists/Turnover ratio - Wow!, through in 4 steals and the college scouts will be lining up.

LMAO... They are my early opinions of being a proud supporter of South Australian Teams...

ANKLES - You don't say... It's tongue in cheek stuff, support whomever it is you support... No need to bag other people's opinion/hopes... By The Way, my wording was "Could"... A Win is a Win and it get's us closer to the top of the ladder...

T-DOG - If SAC had shot at the same percentage as TAS, they would have won by 3pts... So YES it is a lost chance at what could have been a possible victory... BUT FANTASTIC for TASMANIA having won the game, it'll boost their percentage.
Hollitt & Pinyon for SAC didn't play near their best (BUT I'm not there, they may have been shut down...). Good luck definately to TAS if they make a SEMI-FINAL and possibly move onto the GF, I'm all for a good teams sucess, I support GOOD BASKETBALL, just would like to SA teams succeeding... obviously.
Greendood was AWESOME, I would have loved to have seen his game for sure the stats were unbelievable! BUT also impressed with Brown, shot at 67% from the field and 13 Boards (6 offensive - he was hungry!).

Vic metro coached by Guy Molloy will be on the money...infact my money would be with them...if i was able to bet on kids games...

Pirie Panther, keep up the good work too...sometimes this forum gets bogged down with parents, bitter kids and ex coaches...or perhaps even current coaches, but if we keep this on track it will be a decent thread to see all the scores and the likes..

hoping to get to the Starplex later in the week for a look.

Guy Molloy great coach. He had SA sussed IMO. Lots of basket cuts by their big guards.

I dont understand why SA were post fronting when their smalls ar undersized. They gave up lots of O boards with their bigs out of positon.

Their offense involved very little ball movement and basket cuts while Vic just had plenty of movement and hard basket cuts.

I think someone needs to tell SA guards not to pickup their dribble until they are ready to pass the ball.

The player missing from the SACW is the Captain Emma Hooley... Pretty decent loss!

They are currently fielding 5 Bottom Aged players.

As for player statistics go to the Nationals website
http://linky.com.au/61u1q
-click on fixtures and results at right of screen
-select the results link on the desired competition
-on the headings lists across the top, click competition stats
-you can then toggle the orders of each statistic heading to find out who are the leaders in each category.

Happy viewing.

ankles - Triple Double to Gretel Tippett: 19pts, 15 rebounds... 14 Turnovers... BUT Serioulsy great game, ended with 9 Blocks, just short of a proper triple double & just short of leading her girls to the victory.

This is a difficult game to analyze... QLD better from the field, however 0/12 outside, where as SAM hit 4 and SAM were better from the charity stripe. QLD won the boards, the blocks and points inside the paint. BUT QLD turned it over 27 times, to SAM 19 but in saying that SAM didn't capitalize with a score on just 2 of those occasions.

Ultimately the difference I think is SAM had 101 shots from the field/foul to QLD South' 96... 5 more shots, 5 more points.

Thanks for the update PP, Just a question about the live stats. what does BL & BI stand for, I know they are some type of blocks but not sure what, and also why doesnt the amount on the bottom not add up, for example SAM game they had 22 FG = 44 points + 4 3P = 12 points + 24 FT that = 80 Points but they have it as 72. what am i reading wrong?

Reply #232324 | Report this post

Pirie Panthers
Years ago

Unfortunately the confusion with statistics comes in as 3 point shots are a field shot, so to get the true points score you have to take away how many 3pt shots were hit from the amount of hit field goals.

(for example SAM game they had 22 FG = 44 points + 4 3P = 12 points + 24 FT that = 80 Points but they have it as 72)

22FG - 4x3P = 18 successful 2PT Field Goal attempts.

18 x 2PT = 36
+ 4 x 3PT = 12
+ 24FT x 1 = 24
TOTAL = 72 Points scored for the Game.

BL = Blocks For
BI = Blocks Against
The BL is just short for BLOCKS, and I believe BI is short for Blocks Incurred.

3PT shots are included in the FG total so you should only be adding 1 point for every 3 pt shot made not 3.

Woah... First term showed great promise, then VICM hit their straps... Nothing too memorable to report except for Seekamps 7 rebounds which was the 3rd highest tally for the game...

Will be playing off for a very low ranking, but there would be alot being learnt by all involved.

Men: SA Country 69 def. NT 52
http://linky.com.au/ftf0c

ummmmm.... Started out as something that SAC could get very excited about, but turned into a somewhat embarrasing second half on the back what could be some serious injuries.

Fraser Marshall 2.50mins - fell on lower back early and iced for remainder of the game

Nelson Magor 4.02mins - subbed out with a ball to the thumb, iced and took no further part in the game.

Peter Hooley 18.23mins - "POSSIBLE" broken eye socket, obviously took no further part in the game.

My feedback is via text from a watching mum, none of which is official, but if someone hears more, it would be good to keep people upodated as all injuries are unwelcome.

And I must apologies to Daniel Florance of NT... He only played 19.59mins with 5 points in 2 from 5 shooting... Maybe the coach saw my earlier written statistics and thought it was time to take the pressure of him being the main player... MY bad SORRY!

Bevo was there today for the BA awards breakfast. Unsure as to whether or not he will stay for the remainder of the tournament. Brian Goorjian was the guest speaker also. I think all other NBL type people have been previously mentioned. Both sets of AIS coaches have been there for the duration of the tournament.

Not Happy with Live Stats on this one... Didn't watch any of the game and it only showed me the happenings at the end.
Shot above 50% and almost doubled WAC in Rebounds & Points in the Paint.
Nathan Spehr shot for 22 points at 75%, as did John Marriott for his 13. Josh Owen-Thomas was at 80% on 11 points and Lachlan Prest hit his 4 shots at 100%. And Daniel Carlin 10pts, 10reb for a double double.

SAC v NT.
Gallant effort by all. SAC bench depleted after injuries and NT performed a late combeback. This year's NT teams are similar to that of the late 90s so are looking good under the guidance Tim Duggan.

NT did very well in this with a good workload spread to go down by 20.

I had heard that this was on of the best U18 Metro Boys teams we had put up.

Results would have to be considered disapointing and it appears there a bit of a one man band.

This was a great game all-in-all. I think the SA coaches realised they couldn't better their position too much with a massive victory so they shraed the court time very even through their squad, with bench players playing the bulk of the minutes.
All players scored, 6 players in double digits and Rodalie Cutri had 11pts/11reb.

Hats off for GREAT sportsmanship!

I would have thought last year's team - even before the results - was a much much better team.

Unfortunately they are U 18 so i can't say any more other than congratulations to Nathan Spehr for a fine tournament so far.

Update on injured boys from SA Country...

Fraser Marshall - a little stiff, but is likely to take to the court.

Nelson Magor - Has been directed by a dr to see a specialist and have a scan on his hand. Can't currently catch a ball, so safe to say he won't suit up today, or possibly the remainder of the carnival.

Peter Hooley: Eye is intact, a big egg on his eye, but excellent result and may suit up for this afternoons game.

Hey interested

Not hard to see whats wrong in SA - at least the kids try. The game is a basketcase here in your state and it starts at the top - boys club that runs the programmes that encourage mediocricy. Your coaches are arrogant and your programs crap. Any kid with a mind of his - her own gets trampled on. look at the list of kids the game in your state has lost to other sports in the last 5 years and you might start to get the message. Change your ways like we had to and you never know ......

Men: SA Metro 90 def. ACT 59

All the boy scame to play this one and similar to the SAMW earlier, game time was shared very evenly between all the players.
All the boys got on the board with 2pts or more with a dominating display from Jake Sadauskas with 18 (all coming from 2pt territory or the foul line) + 7reb, and Daniel Carlin almost posted a double with 16pts & 9reb.
Anthony Pronin & Nathan Smith were best for ACT with Smith on 13pts, 9reb.

Shooting Percentage & lack of Rebounds really hurt SAC in this 22 point loss.

I've not kept a big eye on individual statistics, has anyone noticed a particular player that would vy as best game for the weekend?

Here's one from this game:

NSWM
#15 Daniel Trist (a point or rebound every 1:10approx.)

26:02mins

9/13 Field Goals at 69%
3/6 Foul Shots @ 50%
= 21 Points

2 offensive + 12 defensive rebounds = 14

Let us know what you find.

SAC boys played a gallant second half against NSWM after a slow start. Fraser Marshall did a great job of leading the charge when team mate Jordan Hollitt exited the game with what sounded like a medial ligament injury. Fraser showing little sign of yesterdays soreness from NT.
Pinyon and Rawson played solid minutes and roles in the remaining time, with Hooley also adding invaluable pressure on the guards up the floor securing some steals to get well needed points.
Warren and Barlett made excellent contributions from outside the paint and crashing boards and penetration, as did Jake Salter knocking down a killer shot from the mid corner spot.
Grenville made some fairly quick movements from one end of the floor to the other to assist his team defensively.
Nelson Magor provided a voice of assurance from the bench given his injury and helped get some sense of cohesion in the time that Hollitt went down and the coaches were investigating the injury.
Tomorrow should be against ACT at 1pm. SAC bigs seem to be in good shape so matching up should not be the greatest challenge, however, we did look a bit slow in the start of the NSW game and need to knock down the first few points against ACT to get off on the right foot.

Other games to look out for (from my brief working out tonight - as website seem not to show it)
Naturally the top 4 teams - Women
1pm VIC M v SA M
3pm VIC C v QLD N
Men
5pm VIC M v VIC C
7pm NSW M v QLD S
Winners into GF and losers play for 3/4 I gather.

I think both SAC men and women play at 1pm.
SAC Women did well finishing 4th in the pool from the ladder on the web, which means they play QLD South on court 2 - a win could place them in 5th/6th play off, but still top 8, so a good effort with such a big loss of an inside unit like Hooley.
SAC Men seem like they will play off against ACT as mentioned above on court 3.
Going to thin out the supporting crowd by sharing them over the same timeslot - in fact, SA Metro girls also on at 1pm according to my calcs, so lots of SA people around for that time slot.
WA Metro vs SA Metro should be a good tough game thats on at 3pm (in the men).
No New South Wales teams in the top 4 play off for teh girls??? They play off against each other at 11am...be interesting to see how fellow South Weigans handle number 14...suppose they are used to her ways.
Anyone wanting one last look at Hugh Greenwood before, Tas are playing at 5pm.

WOW, 9th - 12th!

Without turning this into a shit fight like all other threads, I would have seen this team as fighting for 5th - 8th. I didn't see them as top 4, but certainly better than this. Especially after last years excellent performance.

Hopefully the coaches and girls can work on this for next year's campaign.

Pigs of War - I was talking to one of the assistant coaches and he agreed, they too thought a top 8 berth would have been a likely result prior to the carnival, however that's the difference between winning hte close ones & losing them... They had a 3pt & 10pt loss, which obviously moved them down the ladder.

Women: SA Country 71 def. WA Country 60

Olivia Thompson has been the stand out thus far for SA Country and at bottom age, will be a great force in 12mths time. Game stats 21pts, 0fouls, 4blks, 6reb. Tayla Corrigan also goo in her half a game with 10reb.
Rebecca Preston for WAC was great for her 12pt, 11reb.

PP, yeah well after that win, i guess they are going to get the sort of spot i said...i will say IMO i thought they would be 5th or 6th, but your right, lose some close ones and there you go down the ladder...

Olivia has been the stand out by miles...i would say she will close to a AIS spot to be honest, specially if NS has a spot.

Do they do an all star 5 or anything?, again I reckon she will be close to that too..very athletic as a tall player, having watched her, i think she has a boys game in the paint...which is a killer for her...

Bit confused about the playoffs published on BBA fixtures and results page, where your posting seems to originate.

SAM came 4th in Group A, crossed over today with 3rd in Group B and won (defeated WA Metro. How can SAM therefore be playing off for 9th and 10th? This would mean that teams that came 5th and 6th in their groups are playing for higher spots.

Some teams are even not shown on the fixtures, think there may be errors. Do you have an email address for BBA so can query.

We figured after todays result, SAM were playing off for 5th or 6th. Help??

Just a quick note to SA hoopers and Gawlerites in particular.

I have been to many Nationals and this one was one of the most enjoyable and freindly tournaments I have attended. People awsome, organisation fantastic and competition was great.

Vic Men, - One of the best defensive efforts seen for a long time.

NSW Men, Great individual efforts by Aldridge and Trist

Qld Sth and Vic Cntry - Creek, McCarron McFarlane and company were awesome and finally Greenwood ( Tas ) was exceptional.

Spehr was very good as well.

Well done everyone
