One SD not on Foxtel this Thursday

Awesome news. Even though One SD (Channel Ten's 24 hour digital sports channel) launches on Thursday night it will not be available to Foxtel viewers until April at the earliest and possibly as late as May or even June. Supposedly due to continuing negotiations.

The only way to view the channel until then will be if you also have a set-top box or HD TV.

They show ABC2 via the Foxtel IQ but of course roadblocks spring up when FTA come up with our first ever 24 hour sports channel which will be in direct competition to Fox Sports.

Poor form.

The Channel is "One HD", however it is being broadcast on both channel 1 (HD) and channel 12 (SD).

There is a little confusion over this. They initially announced it as One Sport which would be shown over 2 channels OneSD & OneHD.
As for it being shown through Foxtel, why should Foxtel have to run it through their system. (It's a good thing if they do but can understand why the wouldn't want to - ch7 still isnt run through Foxtel sattelite).

I'm not fazed either way but would imagine most people that have/can afford foxtel have/can afford a set top box or tv with inbuilt tuner.

The biggest advantage would be for those in regional areas that run with Foxtel/Ausstar who cant get FTA reception or pick up all the channels.

It will only be on SD for a little while then that service will be cut in the hope of getting people hooked on it so that they do upgrade to HD

The only benefit of the ONE HD broadcast being on SD, is that those of us without HD DVD Recorders, and just standard DVD recorders can tape the NBA on the SD broadcast.

Yeah, if your standard DVD recorder is digital. I paid $350-400 or something at "the Good Guys" for an analogue about 3 months ago and they didn't even tell us. A**holes, now it's not worth anything to me :(

To clarify:

Only in selected markets where Ten HD is already available via Foxtel HD.

Ben Fitz, I think you'll find it's the reverse. The commercial channels see SD as the way to go not HD.

still not available and the IPL is about to start
this is bulsshit by foxtel
They want standard viewers to pay another 20 bucks a month to get HD, plus $200 for an IQ2 this is outrageous and typical telstra price gouging.
