Ben Madgen Div II SE Player of the Year

Ben Madgen (ex Mavs premiership player) playing for Augusta State University has been named the Division 11 Southeast Region Player of the Year.

I read previously that if he continues his scoring average next year he will be the highest scorer ever in the Conference.

Could be a good NBL pickup if he returns.

Good to see a Williamstown boy doing well (sister Tess at AIS)

No matter what level of College Ball,

49% Overall F/G %
46% 3pt %
85% Free Throw %
4.6 rebounds
3.0 assists

with the team having a 27/4 record, those stats are definitely nothing to sneeze at.

Great to see ANY SA Basketballer doing well anywhere. If he has put on a bit of size over the past couple of years, he may also have potential to replace Brett in the sixers line-up. (in position only, Brett's role is too big to fill for just one player). he has more height than both Burdon and Ng and with this years Stats maybe just as good a shooter

His stats are substantially better than Bruce who also played in a Div 2 conference.

You would be better of comparing his stats to that of Mark Worthington who played Div II college ball for Metro State IMO.

"Madgen, a 6-4, 185-pound junior guard from Williamstown, Australia, was named to the Daktronics Third-Team, All- American squad. The 2009 Daktronics Southeast Region Player-of-the-Year, Madgen was also selected first team All-Southeast Region and was a first-team All-Peach Belt Conference pick. He was named to NCAA Southeast Regional All- Tournament team after leading the Jaguars to the Southeast Regional title on March 17. He was also voted the Peach Belt Conference Tournament's Most Valuable Player after leading ASU to the PBC Tournament Championship on March 8.

The league scoring champion at 19.1 ppg., Madgen also led the PBC in three-point percentage (.462), ranked second in free throw percentage (.869), third in minutes played (33.06) and fourth in 3-point field goals made (2.39). He was the only player in the conference to rank in the top 15 in scoring, field goal percentage (12th/.499) and assists (14th/2.85). With 25 points vs. No. 16 USC Aiken in the Southeast Regional Championship game, he moved into fifth place on the ASU career scoring list with 1,642 points and into sixth place on the PBC career scoring list.

He led ASU in scoring on 16 occasions, registered 20 or more points 14 times and cracked the 30-point barrier twice, including a career-high 33 points vs. USC Aiken on Jan. 5.

ASU (29-4) tips off the 2009 Elite Eight on Wednesday, March 25 when the fourth-ranked Jaguars face No. 15 Christian Brothers (25-6) from Memphis, Tenn., at 12 noon in the MassMutual Center."

with 16 points last night Ben is now fourth in all time points scored for ASU and fifth in the Peach Belt . With a little luck he could break 2000 point mark next season . The first player to do so in the Peach Belt.

More good news for Madgen...

Link: http://linky.com.au/amusf

"Staring at its largest halftime deficit of the season, Augusta State staged a massive second-half comeback Wednesday afternoon in front of a crowd of 3,908 at the MassMutual Center, rallying past Christian Brothers for a 70-62 victory in the national quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight."

"Madgen led the Jags with 16 points and six rebounds, eight of those points coming from the free throw line. As a team, ASU hit 10 of 12 free throws in the final 1:54 as CBU was forced to foul."
