Cheryl Chambers named WNBL Coach of the Year
The Australian Defence Force Women's National Basketball League is pleased to announce Bulleen Boomers head coach Cheryl Chambers as Coach of the Year for the 2008/09 season.
Chambers steered Bulleen into second place on the ladder at the end of the regular season, a feat the team had achieved only once before; the Boomers also finished second in the 2004/05 season, giving Chambers her first Coach of the Year nod.
This season she has led the Boomers to the finals for the first time since the 2005/06 season. After recruiting well in the off-season Chambers molded her side into a cohesive unit that is on the verge of the club's first grand final berth.
Close behind Chambers, and on an equal number of votes, was Townsville Fire head coach Peter Buckle and Canberra Capitals' caretaker Carrie Graf.
The Coach of the Year award is determined by a poll of the head coaches, assistant coaches and team captains from all WNBL clubs at the conclusion of the regular season, they are not allowed to vote for members of their own team.
