Captain for next season?

What are people's opinions on who should be captain for next season? Boti has suggested giving to Schensch to entice him into staying in Adelaide. Holmes is tipped by many and Ballinger can't be left out of the equation. Personally I think it should be Ballinger. He's the right age, has spent a few years here and is a super consistent performer. I think Holmes doesn't have the consistency in his own game to lead the team as well yet (save him for after Balls) and Schensch hasn't shown the loyalty to Adelaide as a team after having only been here a year.

Schensch for me with Balls as 2nd choice if Luke dont stick around.

Both for the same reason of keeping them at the club long term.

I'd like to see Balls get it with Schensch as his deputy. There seems to be a lot of talk of Jacob getting it but I but he is too inconsistent. If are we going to win a championship Jacob should only be playing 15 mins a game off the bench - not starting at PF or SF.

Balls is too quiet.

Jacob has the best interpersonal skills to be captain.

We have to get away from thinking that the captain has to be the best player.

With Mark Davis and Brett that has been the case more often than not but its not the only way it has to be.

A Captain needs to be able to lead by example, still want Holmes as your Captain

The best player is not necessarily the captain. The Captain of a team is someone who leads on and off the court by providing direction and motivation.

The captain must also have the respect of the other players and must have a good knowledge of the game.

For the Sixers, the options are:

Jacob, Luke, Balls, Brucey

I lean towards Jacob.

I don't like Schensch or Balls as captain, would rather see Jacob or Davo get the captaincy.
Brucey, if he stays long term would be a good captain to replace the next captain.

You can have great interpersonal skills but if you are not on the court you cannot lead the team. IMO Jacob is too inconsistent with his play to be captain (for next season) - & if we are ever going to win a championship it will be with him playing 10 - 15 mins a game off the bench - IMO he is not good enough to warrant much more than that.

I am not questioning Jacob's work ethic; great training habits & that he is a well liked guy & leaves it all on the court however IMO he plays like a PF but does not have the size or height to play that postion in the NBL & does not have the quickness, athletism or skill set of a SF or SG.

I cant imagine that offering the captincy would be enough to keep Schensch or Balls, so no point.

Give it to the player who the team respects, the player who sets an example in all areas including, playing, training and publicly.

Im not sure who that is..but, im sure Scotty can work it out

Not going to be easy for anyone to replace Brett, but if Holmes does do it, they will have another captain with in 2 years. Holmes is way too inconsistent, in a decent team will not start, and at certain times would be considered being offloaded for a better quality player.
Ballinger would maek it harder for him to leave also, decent player, leads by example and has the respect of his peers.
Luke is a standout guy, but still has the Dream!

I can't believe Davidson has hardly been mentioned in this thread. For me, he is the obvious choice. The only thing going against him is his age. But seeing as there doesn't appear to be any other obvious choice why not give it to him for a year or two until he retires and then see who has emerged.

Davo would be a good captain for a year with Jacob as #2

Coz Cooper shouldn't even be on the roster! I've got nothing against Davo, but think that he's too close to retirement to make it worthwhile him being captain for a season or two

This will prove a very difficult decision, the reason being is that its Brett who is being replaced and lets face it, no one is ever going to be good enough. Brett has made it too difficult.

I think Schenscher, if we can keep him? Failing that;

Davo for 2 years while Bruce matures and learns to lead the team under Davo's guidance then let Brucey take the mantle!

I would be thinking players that will be there in 2 years.
I will be surprised if Bruce is, Luke is, or Davidson is.
Holmes can leave anytime he wants and come back with a better shooting % and more points.

They might be better of rotating the C like under 10's!

Pick a player who will be at the club long term. I would pick Hill, with Ballanger as my 2nd choice.

Er, Scott Thompson as captain???

Because, you know, he's such a great leader with his fantastic decision making and complete lack of off-field indiscretions.

There is a poll on Adelaidenow.

Should Luke Schenscher be the Adelaide 36ers Captain.

Currently 'YES' has 80% of the vote.

Luke is too quiet and introverted.

I don't think Boti carrying on like a pork chop calling him a "Ranga" every day in his column is doing too much good either.

If he continues the "Ranga" theme, I wonder what curious term of endearment Boti would like us to start calling him?

BTW, what does Boti have against Jacob??

He appears to downplay his achievements and is quick to point out his shortcomings. Any compliment seems to be a backhand.

Jacob has done well this season in trying circumstances and should be congratulated on his award. Rather, it has been skimmed over and downplayed.

As an aside, well done to Jared as well. It is guys like Jared that put in the hard yards and make the club run smoothly.

[Pause] Rant and rave time over...

I have to agree with Boti - Holmes should not be captain. If he was playing for NZ, Tigers or South he'd be coming off the bench & probably only getting 15 mins a game, which Adelaide should be looking at next season if we are to advance any further.

IMO Luke should have got Defensive Player of the year award. His no's are far superior than Holmes in terms of defensive rebounds, blocks & how many other shots he changed throughout the course of the season. He shut down Anstey twice & will hopefully be the NBL 1st Team centre.

To be honest I cannot think of many players Holmes shut down this season..........but please correct me if I am wrong

I'd go Balls; Luke or Davo as captain. All three with do a good job IMO.

I agree with ME,
"Give it to the player who the team respects, the player who sets an example in all areas including, playing, training and publicly."

And it doesn't matter if the player is going to be around for one season or six. I like Balls, Davo, or Schensh, all have the experience, and temperament for the job. Not sure about Jacob, seems to be a bit moody on the court at times.
