Heal: Daniel Joyce second best youngster in NBL

Shane Heal declared Blaze young gun Daniel Joyce in the top two youngsters in the league after the 21-year-old produced a scintillating fourth-quarter display to take the game away from Wollongong at the weekend.

Joyce sunk four crucial baskets in 90 seconds to continue a breakthrough season for the guard.
"Other 21-year-olds get on the court and they hit one basket and the crowd go crazy, he (Joyce) does it regularly," said Heal. "People forget he is 21 years of age, apart from Joe Ingles (Souths Dragons star) there's nobody that contributes statistically to a team like him."
Full story

(IMO, Daniel Meers is the most sycophantic writer covering the NBL.)

Let's see - ten youngsters (under 25) I'd recruit before Daniel Joyce: Joe Ingles, Brad Hill, Kerry Williams, Michael Cedar, Erik Burdon, Tom Abercrombie, Corey Webster, Damian Martin, Tyson Demos, Chris Goulding, etc.

No one contributes statistically to a team like him? Is it because he's getting overplayed? That's great if it works, but 8-22 isn't "working".

Anon 966, Bruce is 25 isnt he? Isaac's list is under 25 if thats the case I'd say that's why he is left out.

Yep, Bruce on there for sure. And Abercrombie is a Kiwi, yeah.

In a nutshell, Heal and Joyce might as well get themselves married in their upcoming retirement. And the reporter can go too - it's like reading a paid advertisement every time at that site.

Forgot Stephen Weigh and Daniel Johnson. Maybe Adrien Sturt as well if he's under 25. How old's Cam Tovey?

Its a shame the blatant trumpeting will continue, guess BJ will need another star player to take over from Heal nows hes gone.

It is actually agreed with most NBL players that the kid isn't that bad!

JR and I have this fight all of the time...

The kid will get no respect until he plays under a different coach.

Correct skip, and I'm puzzled why Choco and Joyce Junior can't see this.

Abercrombie is the best player under the age of 21. He is just a freak of nature-Crazy hops. But he has a well-developed all round game now.
I hate watching Paul Henare..He is just about as bad as Daniel Joyce because all he does is just dribble up the court and he cannot shoot.
I say give up Henare's mins. to Abercrombie..the kid can play!

Risk of him getting fewer chances (or none) under another coach though I guess.

Be interesting to see if Junior Joyce gets a contract with anyone in the NewNBL. If Joyce Senior doesn't get a new coaching position, I don't see Junior playing.

I agree quasi, and I don't think his daddy will get that new position.

"IMO, Daniel Meers is the most sycophantic writer covering the NBL."

After looking up 'sycophantic', I completely agree!

Add these to the list of better youngsters (U25): K.Williams, Vanderjagt, Dowdell, Robbins, Gibson, Herbert, Dillon, D.Jackson, Carter, Khazzouh, Janev, M.Knight.

I am too lazy right now to google that word but it definately sounds interesting!
Agreed that if not for daddy coaching, SOJ wouldn't be given as many minutes as he has been and will be lucky to get a gig next season ahead of others that have been forced out of jobs through no fault of their own with folding teams etc.

i agree with shane hear he is one of the better youth players and certainly will be a pick up especially for his ranking of 2 points.

Joyce played big in adelaide and how many youngsters can shoot a game match winner against there former team.

I think he deserves a lot more respect and i agree he needs to move on from playing under is dad.

Drb, SoJ has an external rating of 5, but you're right, he should be a 2.

To further what DJ rod said last get hear I cam across Harvey giving soj a pep talk after the game. I remember comments like you are a player in this league , be proud of how you play etc
So not just angry man pumping him up it seems.

I'd way rather have Abercrombie than Joyce Jnr, he played awesome against the Taipans at home and fully deserved the minutes he recieved, and he didnt have to get his daddy 2 coach the team and tell the others to play nicely with him lol.
Abercrombie will be one to watch out for in the future, Joyce Jnr will mature into a good player but he aint no Joe Ingles
