She was running backwards, and just tripped over her own feet, and fell awkwardly. The fall was quite sickening. She is ok now and joined the girls for a bonding session on Tuesday.

There's a write-up and interview with Marita by Boti in today's Advertiser, FYI. Doesn't seem to be online at this stage.

Anonymous, anonymous and anonymous. Dont make stuff up when you weren't even there:

"no medical personal present" - attended by 3 Medical staff within 30 seconds of the whistle blowing to stop the game.

"no assitance from Canberra staff" - one of those medical staff attending was the Canberra physio, joined by 2 other Canberra support staff as well as Adelaide's and Craig Purdham from the AIS.

"probably glad that she had the surgery here and not there" - don't know this for certain and I have my doubts, however I wont make sh*t up like you anons did. Yeah a real shame that she injured at a facility that is world renown for its sports science - the AIS; where a hospital and operating theatre are 5-10 minutes walk away; and have access to some of the best orthopeadic surgeons in the country who regularly operate on some of Australia and the World's best athletes.

I wish Marita well in her recovery, it was a terrible fall and accident.

Yeti,

I'm not sure what you said is true or not - but the Anon's above are not "making stuff up" - they are basically repeating what was written in the paper here.

- that Canberra did not have a DOCTOR at the game (physio? Please). You above said she was attended by 3 medical staff within 30 secs of the incident - who were they and which one was the doctor?

Well I thought SA Journalism was better than that. As someone who was there I can tell you Marita was well attended. No, Canberra do not have a Doctor on their bench, nor is there a WNBL requirement. The Physio, Masseur and AIS Doctor who joined the single representative from the Lightning on the court. The AIS Arena staff were activated to arrange for stretcher and Ambulance transport immediately.

As to your comment about "Physio, pleeeese..", I'd go and strike up a chat with one of these professionals, at a footy game or even a basketball game and just talk through what their skills and training are and how helpful they would be to a broken wrist. I take it in your professional opinion, Physios are right there with snake-oil salesmen, hope you never get hurt.

The issue I have with the 3 posts, and therefore as you claim, the Journalism they regurgitated was they painted Canberra as an unsportsmanlike team, Canberra as a third world country as far as medical support goes and the program as poorly run. Incorrect on all 3 counts.

If this is an effort to inflame anti-Capitals feelings, I think it could be pointless if you can't make the finals and the loss of a talent like Marita will hurt you. It was an accident and it will have an impact on your teams chances, but lay off the cheap Canberra-bashing. Its the politicans you have an issue with, not the place.

Yeti,
Something you need to know about us South Australians,

A) we hate anyone better than us, SA is the worst for Tall Poppy Syndrome so our Canberra bashing is a natural instinct that we cannot avoid

B) South Australians are NEVER happy, when its not too hot its too cold, we dont get enough rain, until it rains, then we get too much

C) Boti is the only voice we hear re: basketball if we dont believe everything he says basketball reporting in SA may disappear forever

I have no doubt that Canberra did the right thing, but your professionals are too professional, your coach is too good and your players are too talented, except Tracey Beatty, we hate her cause she left Adelaide

Angst and anger the true pride of South Australia
