NBL name
Does the NBL and it's clubs have to change their name in order to get better sponsorships and media coverage?

1 vote for Australasian Basketball Association please.
Association implies there being divisions of say 4 teams each which i believe should happen as a means of promoting local rivalry. QLD for example.
Australasian meaning Australian and Asian - adding locally owned teams in Singapore, Jakarta, Hong Kong, Taipei is a must if this league is to be taken seriously internationally.

I am of the opinion that we really need to get our own house in order before we try to tap into any other markets.
I think "one town - one team" should be the philosophy. Even the NBA struggles with two team towns.
This way we also force the talent across the league. More teams with more talent equals better product.
I also think the salary cap needs BIG teeth. It is rather obvious that some teams have a healthy disregard for any restrictions. Drop the points system and make the cap purely financial with real audits done by real auditors with real penalties for infringements.
With a real salary cap the points system is superfluous.
I also think that we need to carry our history forward into the new league.
We need to make what has gone before really relevant to the future. Team rivalries, stats and stars of the past need to be talked about and compared to the teams and players of today.
Team names should be retained. It would be great to see foundation teams (or as close as possible) like the Bullets and the Kings return.
I love to hate the Kings...

Absolutely need as many foundation teams competing as possible, even if it's just the nicknames which remain. Bullets and Kings for sure. Don't get rid of the crocs for goodness sakes, or merge them with the taipans, If needs be call them the NQld Crocs, but as i'm not a cairns supporter i'm not sure if i'd support them. People seem not to understand why many fans would prefer to have no team then one merged with their major rival, well if you love basketball like other fans love other sports you should understand why. The 36ers have been around long enough to have their own history apart from the bearcats and adelaide city (or whatever they were called, excuse my ignorance). As a sydney supporter i really don't support the idea of the spirit becoming the kings overnight, especially if most of the players are part of the current spirit squad which were infact the razorbacks. I went to a spirit game this season at kings old home court (ent' cent) and whilst i thought there was a possibility i'd jump on their bandwagon, the atmosphere quickly changed my mind. It was worse then the worst kings home game and i'm guessing worse than the worst razorbacks home game. No one really cared, myself included, because this team had taken the kings mascot, ex captain, renamed the team, played on their home court and expected to be supported as sydney's team. Mind you less than 500 people were at this game.
Regional centres is where the NBL can thrive moreso than any other sport in Australia which is why in my opinion places like Canberra (AIS) and Hobart need to have teams in the future.

Australian National Basketball League.
Is what they decided on.
8 teams is their prefered option, and , Sydney Kings have to be in for a FOX deal worth $35M .
Blaze will be in , 36ers , 2 melbourne, 1 NZ, Perth,
mmm not sure on who else ?????
Looks like might be a ten team league , then.
(AIS U23s interested , but would they be competetive)

I asked andrew gaze a straight question on The OT - will the NBL be starting an NBL team in Sydney if no-one comes forward - he darted around the question... but he did have a fair bit to say
he appears very excited about the new NBL and very confident!
