East/West conf. comparison

So, not far from All Star Weekend and the conferences are shaping up quite differently.

In the West, there's basically only 9 teams in playoff contention, the rest are realistically already out of it. What's interesting is, on current form LA have the West locked down, but 2 through 8 will be a tight struggle for positioning.

Contrast that with the East, where Cleveland, Boston and Orlando are the pace setters, and there are 7 other teams vying for 5 spots - Milwaukee and Chicago are contenders for #8, and there's even an outside shot at this stage New York could scrape in (they're only a couple of games outside the 8th spot).

Which will be the more interesting playoff race? There will be some great matchups again this year in the west, but the East will be interesting to see which of the teams currently between .400 and .500 will scrape in the bottom of the East.

I really wouldn't be suprised if Houston and Portland miss out in the West - which is sad considering how much better they will be than the 7-8th seeds in the East.
