NBL Points Cap - are teams over the cap?
With the NBL using both the Salary Cap and Points Cap, I got interested into looking at what teams where under the Points Cap based on the information available on the NBL Website.
Now their information has almost all the NBL players listed, with both their Internal & External ratings, as well as some information about players returning from college:
The following rookies will be assigned a PPR of 3 points for the purposes of their first NBL players' contract:
a) A player on scholarship with the Australian Institute of Sport for two years (seasons)*.
b) An Australian commencing with any NBL Club after a minimum of two years (seasons)* in the US College system.
It also has a piece about players returning from overseas:
Non-restricted players returning from or having played overseas will be allocated a PPR according to the following:
NBA / CBA 10 points
NBDL, European Leagues 9 points
Other International Leagues 8 points
Now onto the main aim of my post...
As I mentioned I have taken an interest in the points cap and have found that based on current rosters, both the Melbourne Tigers and Perth Wildcats are over the cap.
Melbourne:
Chris Anstey, Ebi Ere, Sam Mackinnon (10 Points)
Dave Thomas, Luke Kendall (9 Points)
Dave Barlow, Stephen Hoare (8 Points)
Nathan Crosswell (7 Points)
Daryl Corletto (3 Points)
Tommy Greer, Adrien Sturt (1 Point)
TOTAL = 76 Points
Perth:
Paul Rogers, Shawn Redhage (10 Points)
Ben Knight, Darnell Hinson, Isiah Victor (9 Points)
Peter Crawford (7 Points)
Tom Garlepp (5 Points)
Adam Caporn, Brad Robbins (4 Points)
Alex Loughton, Stephen Weigh (3 Points)
Jeff Dowdell (1 Point)
TOTAL = 74 Points
The question I have for anyone on here is, Are my calculations really bad, or is there something wrong with this system?
Any ideas on how this is possible considering the NBL "polices" the points cap??
