Cats sign ex-Slinger Shane McDonald

From TheWest.com.au:

The recent loss of two guards has forced the hand of Perth Wildcats coach Conner Henry, who today announced the short-term signing of ex-Singapore Slinger Shane McDonald and the return of skipper Paul Rogers.

Studying to be a Physical Education teacher, McDonald will head home to Melbourne later this year but will see out the 2008/09 season in Perth.

The Cats were left thin in the point-guard position when the defection of Luke Kendall to Melbourne and a flare-up of Adam Caporn's knee injury left No.1 choice Darnell Hinson without back-up.

While McDonald's game time will depend on the future fitness of Caporn, the 23-year-old has a good pedigree and is ready to slot straight into the line up against Cairns on Friday night.

Must be that the Tigers offered more to get Kendall across after the three-month deal expired. At the time, I assumed that Perth no longer required him. Wonder if the Cats regret not signing him up for the duration of the season, even if Kendall might've been a bit disinterested (a few Cats fans seem to think so) when he did suit.

I thought the position was that Perth could no longer cover Kendall under injury waivers for other players.

And Kendall was reported to be trying to get back to Melbourne due to an illness in the family

XY - of course, I forgot about that. Could've kept Kendall in and moved Ben Knight on instead. More minutes for Victor that way.
