What would happen if...?

Anyone have any thoughts on some 'what ifs' for basketball. For example, it has been suggested on here that it would be interesting to see what would happen if goal tending were allowed.

I'd also be interested to see what would happen if the shot clock was only ten seconds.

And what if a team was able to nominate one player that could not foul out (except for unsportsmanlikes). Would there be more blocks?

Anyone else have any other stupid random suggestions for me to ponder while I count down the days to Christmas?

What if Slamball became the dominant version of Basketball? The dome would be decked out in trampolines and padding.

See Davidson bounce at the 3 point line and back-flip over Russell Hinder for the Reverse tomahawk jam.

I'd mentioned in 20/20 version a few things.
Besides the serious game.
You could have a short game with goal tending, jump balls, no free throws- side ball , pass or shoot etc.
I'd like to see, say, Norwood-North, pre game or half time, at the dome.
Again, some think it's a good idea, and, some hate it.

what if the ring was only 9 feet tall instead of ten?, dunks everywhere!

what if you could double dribble but only once!?

Dunks worth four points!

Would like to see the 36ers get some ABLers together to play an exhibition game using some experimental rules.

Problem with typical half-time games is that watching celebrities play is a bit boring (most of the time) and watching kids play isn't great either. Wouldn't mind U18-ABL level giving it a crack

With the NewNBL being only 40mins.
Maybe, just that short ABA 20/20 game.
3points for dunks etc. I'd probably leave the rings at 10feet.

How about a 5 point line? Somewhere between half-court and the 3pt line?

Might spread the D even more and it would certainly make the end of games interesting.

What if a dunk was actually awarded 3 points?

Imagine all the little guys trying to throw it down on a fast break...

How about the option for freethrows to be taken from half court with a bonus point the reward?

I mentioned 20/20 to Jason Dix, on air, and he thought there was merit.
Isaac - U18 ABL is best option, really, as you suggest.

This gets interest in other sports, like cricket and AFL-pre season. The purists don't like it. But a lot do. Would create some media and public interest.
Those that live a long way from the dome, with fox, probably won't go to a 40min NBL game, without some other attractions, that they don't get on fox.

The recent ABA 2000 has a few interesting rules:

- No player foulouts. After 6 fouls a player puts a "seethru" jersey over the top of his jersey, and for any subsequent foul, its two shots and side ball

- If you steal the ball in the front court, a blue flashing light goes on behind the backboard, and any field goal is worth an extra point (ie. twos are three, threes are four) - this gets teams playing D the entire 94 feet, esp in final seconds of a game

there were a few more, but cant remember, and cant find them online ...

There's not, it's good.
I don't like the arrow or 40mins.
This is some ideas on possible pre-game or half time entertainment.

what if malone hit his free throws?????

What if the refs called the push off MJ gave Russell????

What if the refs called the goaltend Pippen did in Chicago that cost Shandon Anderson a lay-up???

What if all of these things don't really matter- The Bulls were better.

Acid.

I get the point of your post Quagmire but don't include that Jordan "pushed" off Russell. His hand was on his hip for a minute, but watch Russell's feet and legs and you'll see that the "push" had absolutely nothing to do with him falling over. He got SCHOOOOOOOOOOLED!

What if we hand the management of the 36ers over to this forum.

DDfan can run the training and travel arrangements

Isaac can arrange sponsorship

xzatik can organise recruitment

KingJames can coach

If that happens, could I be in charge of entertaining the WAGS?

There'd probably be no sponsors. I'd spend all day down at the court losing half-court shooting competitions.

No way Kingjames should coach. Sorry but that is a BAD idea.

We seem to solve many of the worlds problems on here so why not!

What if, basketball grew from its hay days in the 90s!!

What if Basketball was like how footy is in regional Australia, and you got a few hundred people to all of your games and 3000 odd to the GF.

What if the top few regional players in each team were getting $600+ per game!

NO MORE SPLIT LINE D

NO MORE ZONES

Crowds will flood back to the Basketball arenas around the league. Lots of dunks and lots of 1on1

Clubs stopped paying ABA players $9k to play 1 game?

They might not need their div 2 teams to play div 1.

$9K x 10 players = $90K for one game. I don't know of any club that would do this.

So, I'm guessing Flanders you missed out??

Last time, there was a bit of interest in trialing a shortened game with basket tending allowed, and a few other experimental things.. but, it was close to the olympics.. Now, it's close to Christmas.
But, I will keep at it.
I think U18 is the way to go..
admin@36ers don't reply.. maybe I'll try something/someone else.

1 player x $9k + all other players x $0 = $9k.

This is from the club that currently is not fielding div 1 teams in any girls grades. Wonder why?
