Crosswhite named NBL Round 13 POTW

With the NBL office down to two staff and the media/communications guy on holiday to use up some leave, Chuck Harmison is sending out the press releases this week. From him comes the news that Ian Crosswhite of Cairns has picked up NBL Player of the Week for Round 13.

The game after his team were saved from expulsion from the league, took pay-cuts, and down three starters (then lost Darnell Mee early), Crosswhite had 16 points and 17 boards as the Taipans beat Gold Coast 97-88, on the road.

Julius Hodge (28/8/7 and 25/12/7) and Luke Schenscher (22/11/4 and 19/12/3) in a 1-1 round for the 36ers were runner-ups.

Honourable mentions went to:

Others in contention for Player of the Week were Mark Worthington (South Dragons), Ebi Ere (Melbourne Tigers), Luke Whitehead (Gold Coast Blaze), Corey Williams (Townsville Crocodiles), Adam Ballinger (Adelaide 36ers), Alex Loughton (Perth Wildcats) and Shawn Redhage (Perth Wildcats).
Can imagine we'll have some unhappy campers in SA based on this decision?

Okay, great game, especially considering circumstances...but come on. How does 16 and 17 beat averages like our boys had over 2 games.

Nice one Harmison.

That is an absolute joke!!

Crosswhite's player of the week figures came at 42% from the field (6-14), 0% 3pt (0-2), 4-10 @ 40% from the foul line. Hardly impressive!

Harmison is an absolute clown!

Harmison just wanted to give the award to a fellow stoner.

Crosswhite's body language and attitude was a discgrace early in the Blaze game. At one stage during a time out (while he was one of the 5 on court) he sat back, hands behind his head, legs crossed and ignored anything the coach was saying, to check out who was in the crowd. He looked like he was just there to make up the numbers as he had nothing better to do. And when on court he was more interested in throwing dirty cheapshots, mouthing off to anyone near him and basically just being a prick.

Somehow after half time he actually got enthused and down the stretch he was the difference (with Cat) and his presence in teh paint was telling at both ends. He started OT with a big dunk that really shut the crowd up and set Taipans up for the win...

I reckon I feel the same way about him as Xztatik does about Hinder......

Cairns falls on a sword, NBL prop the club up, one of their players gets POTW. A cynical punter would claim some political interference in the decision. A cynical person would suggest a charity POTW award just so that the club morale doesn't fall any further.

Any cynical people out there?

Yes.
A charity POTW award.

Why are we blaming Harmison again? Surely he isn't the only one with a say in this (if he has one at all)?

If those are numbers that rate a POW, then Schenscher should be a lock for league MVP, as he's getting that most every game (and shooting much better %s)!

A garbage decision, it doesn't matter who made it.

It seems that NBL staff are on holidays.
Harmison and one other are working, for those that don't think Harmison made the selection.

How about Ere being up there too, as a finalist?

He goes for 21 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists.

BUT, he had 5 turnovers, shot 30% from the field and 25% from the 3 point line.... Over on Ozhoops, their complaining about his selfishness and how, when the game was on the line, he tried to do it all himself and ignored the team.

Result = Tragic fadeaway loss to the pre-season championship favourites.

Kind of adds to the overall laughability of the situation.

POTW? Pffft!

Will be interesting to hear the OT take on this - they have been pretty out spoken about a few of the recent POTW's.

What CD will he get - Kylie Minogue maybe??

Haha, nice joke Isaac ... oh wait? This is for real? Seriously?

Since when does 16 pts get you player of the week, regardless of how many assists, rebs, steals, etc u get!?!?!

And seriously, does the NBL really consist of 2 people + a media guy + Chuck?

Absolute crap!

Cheers for the shout-out Statman, lol, I'm not a great fan of Crosswhite's game myself.

Jordan, actually Chuck and the media guy are it. It's not them and two more. And the media guy (Marc, who is really good to deal with FWIW) is on leave. So that leaves Chuck running the ship. I dare say that any of their cash is being put towards the Spirit and Taipans and/or being conserved for 09/10.

Not a big fan of this POTW award but it's not like the league hasn't previously shown a propensity for spreading the award around where possible, and both Luke and Julius have won it previously. IMO, if Adelaide had gone 2-0, there would have been no excuse but to give it to a 36er.

It's of interest for the MMM and some fans.
A media interview with the POTW and a paper article etc.

Doesn't sound like the players or those that are right into the game take it too seriously.

Would you keep it or scrap it ?
