Low and Khazzouh leave spirit for Europe

KHAZZOUH AND LOW REFUSE PAY CUT, LEAVE SPIRIT FOR EUROPE
By Daniel Eade

"If you want the goss from the boss, get it up at the rim with Hoop Scoop, if you want his views with all the news, sit back and just relax with Hoop Scoop."

The Sydney Spirit survived to live another day but will do so without the services of promising big man Julian Khazzouh and import Derrick Low, after the NBL was notified by their agent, Daniel Moldovan, that the players will not be accepting the pay cut proposed by the league.

It is also believed both players have already lined up opportunities to play in Europe.

Khazzouh was have an outstanding season as he blossomed into one of the premier big men in the competition, depositing 15.1ppg and 10.4rpg for the Spirit in 14 games and was one of only three players (four if you count the two games from Julius Hodge) to be averaging a double-double on the year, with some exclusive company alongside former NBA players Chris Anstey and Luke Schenscher.

Low leaves after averaging 18.9ppg and 3.6apg for the Spirit while playing over 37 minutes per night in his first season after a collegiate career at Washington State University.

With Damian Martin already sidelined with a wrist injury and now no Low, the Spirit will be without a pure point guard for tonight's game against the South Dragons.

It is expected Dave Gruber will come into the starting line-up for Khazzouh, while Clint Reed will be the fill in tonight, while Drew Williamson moves to the point guard.

With their financial inability to ink a new player, the Spirit are now burdened with playing out the season with only one import.
